BronxNet’s 12 YEAR PLAN AND THE SOUTH BRONX
NEIGHBORHOOD PLANAs the fi rst step in implementing BronxNet’s 12 year plan, this pro-posal addresses the needs and culture of a specifi c area of the Bronx. Broadly known as the South Bronx, also known as Bronx Community Planning Boards 1, 2, 3, & 4, the immediate location is known as Mel-rose & Morrisania.
The Park and the bend at East 161 Street and Elton Avenue has long been identifi ed as a good location for a Bronx Civic Center.
This detail map shows the networks of Community, Culture and Com-merce in the immediate vicinity of the proposed development.
BRONXNET’S SERVICE DISTRICTSIn a User Needs Analysis performed by TeleDimensions Inc. it was determined that having only one location in the North-West Bronx impaired BronxNet’s ability to fulfi ll its mandate of providing Public Access to training, production capability, and channel distribution to the entire Borough.
The analysis indicated a need for at least two other BronxNet locations, one in the South Bronx and one in the East Bronx. The color overlays on this map show the resulting “service districts” for each BronxNet location.
BRONX COMMUNITY, CULTURAL & COM-MERCIAL DEVELOPMENT ENGINESThis map shows 106 Knowledge Industry, Creative Economy, and Human Services In-stitutions in the Bronx, each of which could, if provided with appropriate information and communications technology resources, provide Public Access to multi-media capa-bilities, and to distribution over BronxNet’s channels. This will allow them to play en-hanced roles as engines of Community, Cultural & Commercial Development at local, regional and national scales.
BRONXNET’S 12 YEAR PLAN ENVISIONS PARTNERING WITH THESE AND OTHER DEVELOPMENT ENGINES - Providing technical assistance - Assisting in developing in-house multi-media skills and production capability - Facilitating Teleconferencing & Collaboration at a Distance - Managing Network Operations & Content Distribution

PERMACULTURE URBAN DESIGNEco Systems Design, Inc. is based in Basalt, Colorado. In a marriage of Permaculture and Architecture, we apply principles of perennial polyculture, edible land-scapes and forest gardening, to indoor and outdoor environments, expanding the range of growing zones for a given bio region. Our work is based on the discoveries made by the Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute in Basalt over the last 25 years, making possible year-round food crops through Rocky Mountain win-ters, up to tropical zones, including bananas, papayas, mangoes, passion fruit, fi gs and many other tropical and Mediterranean food perennials, in a totally solar heated and cooled indoor environment.
Our latest work includes the Elkstone Greenhouse and Forest Garden in Steamboat Springs, CO, where the banana, fi g, pineapple, mango and papaya trees are fruiting in the same indoor space as tomato, cucumber, melon and salad greens, while the snow rages outside. Our greenhouse installations employ simple but pre-cise solar harvesting and storage methods, eff ectively allowing the widest possible array of food plants to be grown in cold climate.
WE SPECIALIZE IN: - Greenhouse Design and Management Training - Edible Agroforestry and Permaculture Design - Solar Building Design - Integrated Pest Management and Natural Weed Controls - Permaculture Management Training through the Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute: www.crmpi.org
