Pastoral Message
The Holy Spirit was hard at work at St. Rita this past weekend, when a group of about 50 people partici-pated in the Light of the World retreat, held in our school. This is the second year that the Spanish and English editions of the retreat have been housed under the same roof, giving everyone the opportunity to share breaks and conversation. This has been a welcome change to the retreat that we hope to continue in years to come. Participants were at different stages in their relationship with God and each one of them walked away with renewed energy and willing to learn more about their faith and help others live the same experience they had. But it is better to hear the retreatants talk about their ex-perience during this weekend: “This retreat definitely will stay in my mind and heart forever (…) All I asked God for on my birthday was for peace and happiness and I definitely got that.” “I liked that I got to know more about God. It was a beautiful experience to live this retreat and I would do it again.” “(…) This Light of the World retreat has taught me to love myself just the way I am. From now on I want to serve God.” “Everything was great, the talks, reflections and the sense of community.” As you can see, people were touched in a different way by what they lived in this retreat, and that’s the Holy Spirit in action. But the work continues. There are many ways we can participate in our parish and grow in our faith, you just need to find yours. The teams also will consider the comments from this year’s retreatants to continue improving the retreat expe-rience. Soon they will be hard at work preparing next year’s retreat. No matter where you are in your relation-ship with God, join us. More details will be available in the fall. Thank you to all the volunteers: Main Evangelizers, Don Walter and Eduardo Escalante; the coordinators, Olga Bourge and Don Walter; as well as the hospitality, chapel, music, kitchen and shepherd teams, who contributed their talents to make this an enjoyable experience. A special thank you goes to Vicky and Miguel Hinojosa, our kitchen leads, who are a true example of giving time, talent and treasure for the benefit of their fellow parishioners.

The Treasure of Our Soul
Dr. Scott Hahn explains the inesti-mable value of the Creed as a sure means of communicating the life-giving faith of the Apostles and as an indispensable source of unity for the Church. He also brings to light how the Creed has served as a time-tested wellspring of meditation by which a believer can deepen his or her relationship with Christ, making it, in the words of St. Ambrose, “the treassure of our soul.”

Ideas for Lent Lent means spring in Latin and when we hear the word spring we think of “cleaning out the old”. Not only is Lent a time of spiritual cleansing, it could be a physical cleaning also. Here are some ideas for cleaning our hearts and homes: · Give away 10 shirts, 2 pairs of pants and a pair of shoes · 40 items of clothing · 40 bags of trash or clutter from your house · Give away something every single day, time, money or something you own · Go to confession · Go to Adoration (Wed 8am-7pm) · Go to Mass

Being in Lent, we hear a lot about Jesus in the desert or the wilderness. We are also “invited,” in a certain sense, to join Him there. The ques-tion can rise in our hearts, “Why should I?” There are a host of reasons as to ‘why’ but let’s just look at a one. The desert is silent. It is the place where we can hear best the thoughts that run through our mind. It is like when you are at a Christmas dinner or party and there are so many conversations going on that you can’t figure out which one you ought to participate in and there is so much noise that sometimes it feels overwhelm-ing, but as soon as you get back in your car, there is (if you don’t turn on the radio) silence. And all
This Lenten season is a great time to be able to enter the silence and begin to hear yourself, but more importantly, hear God speak to you about His desires for your life. We give things up, pray a bit more, not because we want to brag to our friends but so that we draw into a fresh re-lationship with God. And it is in that fresh rela-
tionship that when we ask Him “Lord, what do you desire for my life?” that we can begin to hear the promptings of the Holy Spirit, the tuggings of our heart, a bit more clearly, because we are living in the silence of the desert. - Fr. Sean Grismer
