Changing and longing in this season of hope…. Advent is a time of reflection, preparation and prayer as we long for the coming of our God. As these stories of his birth unfold and John the Baptist heralds to us, we are called to, “Prepare for the way of the Lord.” May we make moments in our lives to reflect on the gift of our God who has touched us in love and promised to come again. We celebrated Our Lady of Guadalupe, a beautiful Advent model, for this is the one Marian apparition where she is pregnant; pregnant with life, possibility and love. May we too see this example within our homes in this Advent season. We, too, embark on Monday evening, December 16, on one of the evenings of Simbang Gabi; celebrations of light and hope as we gather with our Filipino community to move closer to the Feast of the Birth. Our Mexican Community begins its evenings of Posada as they journey and seek shelter for Mary and Joseph to remind us all of our need to prepare a place in our hearts for the Lord. May these celebrations touch our spirits and move our hearts to see the glorious presence of our God. Change occurs but hope prevails. In this season, two important positions will be shifting for our community and our ministeri-al service. Betsy Lazar will, again, be retiring. Many of you remember her from the bank, Park National, on Irving Park Road. Betsy retired when the bank was bought out by US Bank and she was most willing to come to assist our parish these last nine years as our Business Manager. We wish her well as she moves again into retirement and hope that she takes time to improve her golf game which was sorely lacking due to her parish job! May this New Year bring her much hope and promise into this phase of her retirement from her retirement! Another Staff Member, Daniel Maul, will also be leaving us for a new job in a new position, Daniel was approached to consider a position as Formation Director for the Diocese of West Virginia. He interviewed and was offered a position with a great jump in pay and a wonderful opportunity for his ministerial skills. We will miss him as he leaves us in January and I ask you to keep him, his wife Amanda and his children Daniella and Abram in your prayers. A new job, a new home, a new posi-tion and a new life unfolding….may these opportunities be fruitful and may he and his family be blessed. We have been touched by his ten years of ministry and pray that he has fond memories of his work which can inspire him for his future. As we move through this season, keep Betsy and Daniel in your thoughts and prayers. I will miss them both and am so humbled and grateful for the opportunities that they have provided and the wisdom and insights they have shared with us all…. Religious Education News and Upcoming Events

Parent, Student, & Catechist Conferences: On December 21st, we’d like for you and your child(ren) to attend conferences with the catechists. The students will be given the time at which you should arrive with them for their conferences. Please come a few minutes early, so that your ready at the classroom at your assigned time. Family Christmas Party after Conferences: At about 11:00 a.m., we’d like to have a Christmas, potluck luncheon. Please bring a dish to share either at 11:00 a.m., or when you have your conferences, and we’ll keep the food warm in the kitchen. Please join us. Confirmation Candidate & Sponsor Meeting: Our next Confirmation meeting is for the Candidates and their chosen Sponsors. It will be held on Tuesday, December 17th, at 7:00 p.m. in church. At least one parent for each student should attend this important mandatory meeting. Cambios y anhelos en esta temporada de esperanza... El Adviento es un tiempo de reflexión, preparación y oración mientras anhelamos la venida de nuestro Dios. A medida que se desarrollan estas historias de su nacimiento y Juan el Bautista nos anuncia, estamos llamados a: "Prepararnos para el camino del Señor". Que hagamos momentos en nuestra vida para reflexionar sobre el don de nuestro Dios que nos ha tocado en el amor y ha prometido regresar. Celebramos a la Virgen de Guadalupe, una hermosa modelo de Adviento, porque esta es la única aparición mariana donde está embarazada; embarazada de vida, posibilidad y amor. Que también veamos este ejemplo en nuestros hogares en esta época de Adviento. Nosotros, también embarcamos en la noche del Lunes, 16 de Diciembre, en una de las noches de Simbang Gabi; celebracio-nes de luz y esperanza a medida que nos reunimos con nuestra comunidad filipina para acercarnos a la fiesta del nacimiento. Nuestra Comunidad Mexicana comienza sus noches de Posada mientras viajan y buscan refugio para María y José para recordarnos a todos nuestra necesidad de preparar un lugar en nuestro corazón para el Señor. Que estas celebraciones toquen nuestro espíritu y muevan nuestro corazón para ver la gloriosa presencia de nuestro Dios. El cambio ocurre pero la esperanza prevalece. En esta temporada, dos posiciones importantes serán cambios para nuestra comunidad y nuestro servicio ministerial. Betsy Lazar se retirará de nuevo. Muchos de ustedes la recuerdan del banco, Park National, en Irving Park Road. Betsy se retiró cuando el banco fue comprado por US Bank y ella estaba más que dispuesta a venir y ayudar a nuestra parroquia estos últimos nueve años como nuestra Gerente de Negocios. Le deseamos lo mejor ya que vuelve a su jubilación y esperamos que se tome tiempo para mejorar su juego de golf ya que la falta de practica debido a su trabajo parroquial la había dejado! ¡Que este Año Nuevo le traiga mucha esperanza y promesa a esta fase de su retiro! Otro Miembro del Personal, Daniel Maul, también nos dejará para un nuevo empleo en una nueva posición, Daniel fue contactado para considerar un puesto como Director de Formación para la Diócesis de Virginia del Oeste. Entrevistó y se le ofreció un puesto con un gran salto de sueldo y una maravillosa oportunidad para sus habilidades ministeriales. Lo extrañare-mos cuando nos deje en Enero y les pido que lo guarden a él, a su esposa Amanda y a sus hijos Daniella y Abram en sus oraciones. Un nuevo trabajo, un nuevo hogar, un nuevo puesto y una nueva vida se desarro-lla... que estas oportunidades sean fructíferas y que él y su familia sean bendecidos. Hemos sido conmovidos por sus diez años de ministerio y oramos para que tenga buenos recuerdos de su obra que pueden inspirarlo para su futuro. A medida que avanzamos en esta temporada, mantengan a Betsy y Daniel en sus pensa-mientos y oraciones. Extrañaré a ambos y estoy tan humilde y agradecido por las oportunida-des que han brindado y la sabiduría y las ideas que han compartido con todos nosotros... Retirement Fund for Religious Religious give thanks. “Thank you hardly seems adequate

to convey what it means to us,” says a Catholic sister of the financial assistance her community received

from the Retirement Fund for Religious. Prayer-filled thanks for your donation to last week’s

second collection.

IHM Christmas Posada The Hispanic community here at IHM would like to invite you to their end of Holiday gathering, better known as a “Posada”. A time of gathering, delicious food, music and fun for all ages. This celebration will be held on, Monday, December 23rd, at 7:00 p.m. in the school gym. At this time they are also asking for your help. Our Spanish volunteers will be in the vestibule of church after 10:30 a.m. mass this Sunday with a sign up sheet to sign up those interested in donating or bringing a dish to share for that night. If you have any questions, please contact Denise at ext. 110. Everyone is most welcome. Please join us!
