El espesor de la capa granular est constituido, porrazones econmicas, por dos tipos de materiales:base y sub-base.
La sub-base es un material ms econmico: partculasde mayor tamao y no es triturado.
La base es de mayor costo, espesores mnimos deja ala sub-base la tarea de completar el espesornecesario de acuerdo con las condiciones de diseode la estructura del pavimento establecidas para eltipo de subrasante y el trnsito.
