¿Qué son las oraciones condicionales?
• Son oraciones compuestas: una parte o frase de la misma expresa una condición, y la otra dice lo que ocurrirá si se cumple esa condición propuesta. Por ejemplo: Si hace sol (=condición) iremos a la playa.
• Las palabras más usadas para introducir la condición son: Si (If), si no (unless).

EJEMPLOS
• If it rains (=condición)I will stay at home.
Si llueve me quedaré en casa
• You will not go out (condición=)unless you finish your meal.
No saldrás si no terminas tu comida

TIPOS DE ORACIONES CONDICIONALES
• Se clasifican en 3 tipos:
La condición expresada es real, puede darse.
La condición expresada es irreal o hipotética.
La condición expresada es imposible.

PRIMER TIPO: REALIf you study hard you will pass the exams.

El verbo de la condición está en presente simple.
El verbo de la frase principal está en futuro.

SEGUNDO TIPO: IRREALIf it rained we would stay at home

El verbo de la condición está en pasado simple.
El verbo de la frase principal está en condicional simple.

TERCER TIPO: IMPOSIBLEIf he had left earlier he would not have missed the

El verbo de la condición está en pretérito pluscuamperfecto (past perfect).
El verbo de la frase principal está en condicional compuesto.

POR LO TANTO CADA TIPO SE FORMA ASÍ
• Primer tipo o real:If + presente simple = condiciónfuturo= frase principal
• Segundo tipo o irreal:If + pasado simple = condiciónCondicional simple= frase principal
• Tercer tipo o imposible:If + pret. pluscuamperfecto = condiciónCondicional compuesto = frase principal

OTRAS FORMAS DEL PRIMER TIPO
• El primer tipo de condicional también se puede formar así:
I must leave now. If the children are hungry make them some sandwiches.
(presente – imperativo)
If you heat ice it melts (presente – presente)

OTRAS PALABRAS QUE INTRODUCEN LA CONDICIÓN
• Ya hemos visto IF (=si): If I were you I would go to the party.
• y UNLESS (=si no): Unless it stops raining I will not go out.
• También existen otras como:
As long as (=sólo si), provided that (=siempre que), on condition that.

EJEMPLOS
• I’ll go as long as he asks me.(1º tipo)• He’d clean the car provided that you paid
him. (2º tipo)• We’ll forgive her on condition that she tells
the truth. (1º tipo)• Unless you say the opposite they’ll come.(1º
tipo)
• If you had told me it was his birthday I’d have bought him a present. (3º tipo)
