Tigres parecía muerto, América estaba a un minuto de ser campeón del Apertura 2016, pero un auténtico milagro de Navidad ocurrió en el Volcán. Al 119’, Jesús Dueñas marcó el 1-1 con un cabezazo que obligó pe-nales, en donde Nahuel Guzmán se vistió de héroe para darle la quinta estrella a los Tigres.

Blackhawks are thriving in one-goal games, third period

The Chicago Fire Soccer Club acquired Club Tijuana midfielder Juninho through Major League Soccer’s Allocation Process on Friday, and signed the Brazilian on loan to a one-year contract. The deal includes an option to purchase the player outright and options to extend the MLS contract. In order to acquire Juninho, the Fire sent general allocation money, the club’s natural second round

pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, and the No. 3 spot in the Allocation Rank-ing Order to Minnesota United FC in exchange for the No. 2 spot.. Atlanta United, which holds the No. 1 spot in the Allocation Ranking Order, passed on the player. “Juninho is a champion, a complete player and a beautiful person,” said Fire general manager Nelson Rodríguez. “He excels in all facets of the game and fully understands the commitment it takes to lift trophies. We’re thrilled that Juninho will wear red in his return to MLS.”

Juninho, 27, won three MLS Cups and two MLS Supporters’ Shields with the LA Galaxy during a six-year stint. He originally joined the Galaxy on loan from Brazil’s Sao Paulo FC in 2010, and signed a permanent contract ahead of the 2013 campaign. He scored 18 goals and had 23 assists in 187 appearances, 180 of which were starts. He was also named to the 2015 MLS All-Star Game. In addition to his regular season exploits, Juninho has one goal and four assists in 21 career MLS Cup Playoff appearances, and four goals and one assist in 18 CONCACAF Champions League games. “Going into this off-season, we set our intentions on identifying game-changing players with championship experience along the spine of our line-up,” added Rodríguez. “Including the signing of Nemanja Nikolic, we’ve acquired two players whom attracted significant interest from other clubs worldwide.” The center midfielder was transferred to Liga MX side Club Tijuana on Dec. 23, 2015. He had two goals and two assists in 24 appearances in his one year away from MLS. Prior to joining the Galaxy, Juninho made one appearance with his original club, Sao Paulo FC. Barkley gives away 5 INTs in Chicago Bears loss6

In the first four starts of his four-year NFL career, quarterback Matt Barkley had given the Chicago Bears a chance to win every time. But in Saturday’s 41-21 loss to Washington, Barkley gave the Bears no chance. He threw 5 interceptions, includ-ing picks on four straight possessions to start the second half, dooming the Bears to a 12th defeat against just 3 victories. Washington remains in the playoff race at 8-6-1. Fortunately for Barkley and the Bears, there weren’t many on hand at Soldier Field to witness the nightmare in person. Only 57,953 tickets were distributed, far short of a sellout at 61,500-seat Soldier Field. An additional 18,116 who held tickets opted not to attend. That left just 39,837 to witness a sorry start to the holiday season. A week earlier, when Barkley overcame his own 4 turnovers (3 interceptions and a fumble), he rallied his team to 17 fourth-quarter points and a tie late in the fourth quarter of a 30-27 defeat to the Green Bay Packers.

Afterward, he said he didn’t see much standing in his way. It was different Saturday. “I think I was standing in my (own) way today, just in my own head,” Barkley said. “Trying to do too much and trying to win the game when we were down. You just have to treat it as a 0-0 game, make smart decisions with the ball and give our guys a chance to win.” Given that the Bears’ defense allowed a season-worst 478 yards, including 208 on the ground, the defeat can’t be blamed entirely on Barkley. “I know he’s the last guy with the ball in his hands,” Bears coach John Fox said of Barkley, who is 1-4 as a starter. That’s the same record as Jay Cutler and Brian Hoyer, who preceded him this year. “Everyone wants to look at the quarterback, which sometimes (he) deserves, sometimes not.” It would be hard to absolve Barkley of his second

interception, on the opening possession of the second half. Trailing 24-14 and near midfield, Barkley was partially wrapped up around the knees but lobbed a floater toward the middle of the field in the vicinity of Alshon Jeffery. But Josh Norman, the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback, made the first of his 2 interceptions, and Washington drove to a touchdown for a commanding 31-14 lead with 3:05 left in the third quarter. “I thought I had my base,” Barkley said. “I lost it as I was releasing (the ball), as I was getting pulled down.” Barkley’s fourth interception was returned 79 yards by Will Blackmon to the Bears’ 9-yard line to set up Dustin Hopkins’ 20-yard field goal, extending Washington’s lead to 34-14 with 12:53 remaining. The 20-point defeat was a departure from the last 4 Bears losses, which were by a total of 18 points. In all of those games the Bears had realistic chances to win at the end, but not so this time in the loss that dropped Fox’s record as their coach to 9-22. When Washington’s fourth-string running back, Mack Brown, went 61 yards for a touchdown with 57 seconds remaining, it was difficult to consider the Bears’ effort competitive. But Fox saw no quit in his team. “I thought they were just as competitive as we’ve always been,” he said. “(Washington was) a very-high-octane offense, anywhere between No. 3 and 2 in the league in most areas. We were going to try to keep them off the field. But with 5 giveaways to none, that kind of spoiled that plan. “That has nothing to do with effort or those types of things.” This one was more about lacking enough talent to compete, especially at the quarterback position.

Chicago Bulls can’t complete rally, lose third straight7

LaMarcus Aldridge had a season-high 33 points and the San Antonio Spurs held on to beat the Chicago Bulls 119-100 on Sunday after nearly blowing a hot start.Kawhi Leonard added 25 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Tony Parker had 13 points and 8 assists.

Chicago rallied from a 20-point deficit to lead by three points midway through the third quarter but could not sustain the push, taking its third straight loss.

Parker had 9 points in the final quarter while San Antonio improved to 9-4 at home after losing three of its first four at the AT&T Center.

Dwyane Wade led the Bulls with 24 points, including 10 in the final quarter. Jimmy Butler added 19 points, and every Chicago starter except Rajon Rondo scored in double figures. Rondo was held to 6 points and 2 assists in 30 minutes.

The Spurs shot 82 percent while taking a 36-25 lead through one quarter. San Antonio doubled its lackluster 17-point opening quarter in its first meeting with Chicago on Dec. 8.

San Antonio looked for Aldridge early, assisting on his first 4 field goals on a series of mid-range jumpers. Aldridge made his first nine attempts while scoring 20 points in the opening period, his most in any quarter with the Spurs.

Aldridge made his first 11 attempts, finishing 15 for 20 from the field.

With Aldridge rolling, Leonard hit consecutive 3-pointers for a 14-3 lead.

The All-Star duo combined for 41 points in the opening period, but the Bulls kept pace with a balanced scoring effort fueled by their bench.

Reserve forward Nikola Mirotic had 11 points, including three 3-pointers, 2 steals and 4 rebounds in the first half. Jerian Grant added five points and two steals.

Butler’s 3-pointer gave Chicago its first lead at 70-67 with 5 minutes remaining in the third.

San Antonio regained its double-digit lead at 95-82 on consecutive 3-pointers by Danny Green with Wade shaking his head after running over late to defend.

Bulls: Wade is the NBA’s active leader in scoring (301 points) and games played (12) on Christmas Day. ... Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg said he expects Wade to play in the second game of a back-to-back. ... Chicago is 3-10 in back-to-back games heading into Monday’s home contest against Indiana. ... Wade Megan, we hardly knew ye. But we sure enjoyed you while we did.

Megan, who was called up from the Chicago Wolves for the Blues’ game Thursday night at Tampa Bay, was returned to the club’s AHL affiliate on Friday.

Megan enjoyed a solid NHL debut against the Lightning. The 26-year-old center scored a goal in the first period on his only shot, and he finished the game at +2 after playing 15 shifts and getting 9:40 of ice time.

Megan is the 16th player in Blues history to score in his de-but. He has spent five years in the AHL, including 28 games this season with the Wolves.

La prensa italiana asegura que Antonio Conte, técnico de Chel-sea, quiere sumar al chileno Arturo Vidal a su plantel y que el equipo inglés estaría dispuesto a ofertar 50 millones de euros por el futbolista de Bayern Múnich, cuando termine la tempo-rada.“Chelsea se desata en el mercado”, afirman. Por segundo año consecutivo, la estrella mexicana Canelo Álvarez ha protagonizado el nocaut del año, sólo que ahora lo logró cuando mandó a la lona al británico Amir Khan de manera espectacular y dramática en uno de los eventos que marcó la pauta en 2016 al ser el primero en la historia de la T-Mobile Arena de Las Vegas.

Ya Canelo había llevado este reconocimiento el año pasado luego de haber puesto sobre el tapiz al estadoun-idense James Kirkland en tres ocasiones antes de obligara la detención en el tercer episodio del pleito real-izado ante 31 mil personas en el Minute Maid de Houston, Texas.

De vuelta sobre el nocaut en turno, Canelo chocó con Amir Khan en un peso pactado de 155 libras, poniendo en juego el campeonato Mediano del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo que había ganado en la pelea en contra del puertorriqueño Miguel Ángel Cotto en noviembre de 2015.

La pelea había resultado disputada. La velocidad de Amir Khan había puesto en predicamentos al peleador mexicano que estaba ajustando sobre el ensogado y arriesgando a veces demasiado en el combate con tal de conectar al olímpico inglés en Atenas 2004.

De hecho, de las tres tarjetas, dos favorecían a Canelo y una más a Khan, hablando de lo disputado del com-bate, hasta que llegó un bombazo de Alva-rez al rostro de Amir que lo acostó sobre la lona de forma espec-tacular a los 2:37 minu-tos del sexto round, y con ello se pusieron de pie todos los asistentes a la lujosa y confortable arena.

Tras algunos minutos sobre la lona, finalmente Amir Khan pudo reincorporarse para alivio de muchos, y aprendió de nuevo que no siempre es bueno tomar la decisión de subir 8 libras para un combate, por más que sea la estrella del boxeo en la actualidad y ello represente una oportunidad.

Otro nocaut grandioso de Canelo en el pasado fue el que tuvo aún jovencito en contra del argenti-no Carlos ‘Tata’ Baldomir en el Staples Center de Los Angeles, llevándolo a la lona en cámara lenta con un volado de mano derecha.

Otros nocauts destacados del año fueron el de Julius Indongo en un round ante Eduard Troya-novsky, el del súper pluma Vasyl Lomachenko contra Román ‘Rocky’ Martínez, y el de Deontay Wilder contra Artur Szpikka entre los pesados.
