TEMPE, ARIZONA – State authorities announced the dismantling of an extensive drug trafficking cell linked to the Sinaloa Cartel, after a six-month investigation.

The investigation, dubbed “Operation Nayarit Stampede”, was focused on attacking drug trafficking organizations in the Mexico-Arizona border. As a result of this operation, 20 people were arrested and authorities seized $2.4 million in cash, 14 firearms, 3 tons of marihuana, 30 pounds of methamphetamine, 10 vehicles and a Cessna aircraft.

Tempe detectives initiated the investigation after obtaining information about possible stash houses in Tempe. The

detectives were able to secure evidence that a drug trafficking organization was delivering illegal drugs to Tempe and customers in New York, Alabama, California and other parts of the country. The drugs were transported in hidden compartments of trailers that were crossing the Mexico-United States border. The arrests took place July 7.

“Operation Nayarit Stampede marks an end to an extensive drug trafficking organization that stretched across the Mexico border and into Arizona and beyond,” DEA Special Agent Doug Coleman said. “DEA and our partners have taken large quantities of drugs, millions of dollars in drug trafficking assets, and powerful weapons off our streets. We will continue to do everything in our power to bring to justice those who try to poison our communities.”

Under new ordinance Chicago Police won’t detain undocumented immigrants

CHICAGO – El alcalde de Chicago Rahm Emanuel presentó la ordenanza “Welcome City”, que prohibiría a la policía detener a inmigrantes indocumentados, a menos que tengan una orden criminal en su contra o hayan sido encontrados culpables de crímenes graves.

De ser aprobada, esta ordenanza convertiría a la Ciudad de Chicago en la más accesible con los inmigrantes indocumentados en la nación.

El alcalde hizo la presentación de esta ordenanza en la Escuela Preparatoria Little Village el 10 de julio. En esta conferencia de prensa también participó el congresista Luis Gutiérrez.

“Si alguien tiene antecedentes criminales, los quiero en la cárcel o fuera de la ciudad. Si usted es un inmigrante y no tiene antecedentes criminales, no quiero que eso haga que usted no contacte a la policía”, dijo Emanuel en la conferencia de prensa.

Actualmente las agencias de la ciudad no preguntan el estatus migratorio de las personas que buscan obtener servicios de la ciudad.

Además, la policía de Chicago no pregunta el estatus migratorio de víctimas de crímenes, testigos y otros ciudadanos que se apegan a la ley.

Sin embargo, cuando la policía detiene a alguien y hace una revisión de antecedentes y se da cuenta de que hay una orden de deportación, no hay una regla específica que diga lo que deben hacer y ellos se encuentran

bajo presión del Servicio de Inmigración y Aduanas (ICE por sus siglas en inglés) para que se los entreguen.

Esta ordenanza busca terminar con este vacío legal y dar un protocolo a seguir en estos casos.

La ordenanza permitiría a la policía de Chicago entregar a autoridades federales a inmigrantes indocumentados que son buscados con una orden de arresto o han sido encontrados culpables de un delito grave, pero no a los demás inmigrantes indocumentados.

“Si usted ve un crimen, repórtelo. Si usted es una víctima, repórtelo. El Departamento de Policía no está ahí como una extensión del Servicio de Inmigración. Si usted tiene antecedentes criminales, eso es diferente. Si usted es un buen ciudadano, su estatus

migratorio no es un botón de pausa para que usted no llame al Departamento de Policía … No puedo estar abogando porque la comunidad colabore con el departamento de Policía si la gente está preocupada por su estatus migratorio y no reportan un crimen”, dijo Emanuel.

“No vamos a entregar genta ICE y no vamos a revisar su estatus migratorio, revisaremos antecedentes criminales pero no el estatus migratorio”.

No se conocen muchos detalles de esta ordenanza, ya que todavía está siendo redactada.

Se espera que Emanuel introduzca la ordenanza en la reunión del concilio de la ciudad el 25 de julio, donde cuenta con el apoyo de los concejales hispanos.

If passed, this ordinance would make Chicago the most undocumented-immigrant-friendly city in the country.

The mayor introduced the ordinance during a press conference at Little Village High School on July 10. Congressman Luis Gutierrez also participated in the press conference.

“If somebody has a criminal background,

I want’em in jail or out of the city. If you’re an immigrant and you have no criminal background, I don’t want that to be prohibitive from your contacting the police,” Emanuel said during the press conference.

Currently city agencies don’t ask people about their immigration status when they request city services.

Also, the Chicago Police does not ask the immigration status of crime victims, witnesses and other law-abiding citizens.

However, when police stop someone and conducts a criminal background check and finds out there is an order of deportation against that person, there is no clear indication of what to do in those cases, and they oftentimes are

under pressure by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials to turn them over for deportation.

This ordinance seeks to close this loophole and provide guidelines on what to do.

The ordinance would allow Chicago Police to turn over to federal authorities those undocumented immigrants that have an arrest warrant or have been convicted of a serious crime, but not other undocumented immigrants.

“If you see a crime, report it. If you’re a victim, report it. The Police Department is not there as an adjunct of the Immigration Service. If you have a criminal record, that’s different. If you’re a good citizen, immigration

status is not a pause button for you to call the Police Department. … I can’t be advocating for the community to work with the Police Department if people are worried about their immigration status that they don’t report a crime,” Emanuel said.

“We’re not going to turn people over to ICE and we’re not going to check their immigration status, we’ll check for criminal background, but not for immigration status.”

There aren’t many details available on the new ordinance, as it is still being drafted.

Emanuel is expected to introduce the ordinance at the city council meeting on July 25. He has the support of all the Hispanic aldermen in the council.

Para que un extranjero pueda obtener un estatus migratorio, ya sea como trabajador temporal en los Estados Unidos o como residente permanente, tiene que tener un patrocinador.

Los patrocinadores pueden ser patrones o algunos familiares.

Si su patrón quiere patrocinarlo par que obtenga un permiso de trabajo temporal en los Estados Unidos o para obtener su tarjeta de residencia, hay ciertos requisitos que se tienen que cumplir.

El primer requisito es que si usted está en los Estados Unidos, usted debe tener un estatus migratorio legal. Usted no puede estar aquí con una visa de turista expirada ni tampoco si entró ilegalmente.

En estos casos, usted tendrá que irse de los Estados Unidos por 10 años y luego su patrón podría someter la documentación y la solicitud para que usted entre a los Estaos Unidos, asumiendo que ha estado en los Estados Unidos de forma ilegal por un año.

My employer wants to help me obtain my papers. How does that work?

In order for an alien to obtain immigration status, as a temporary worker in the United States or a permanent resident in the United States, they have to have a sponsor.

Sponsors can be either employers or certain family members.

If your employer wants to sponsor you to obtain temporary work authorization in the United States or a green card, certain requirements must be fulfilled.

The first requirement is that if you are in the United States, you must have lawful

immigration status. You cannot be here with an expired visitor visa or in the United States if you entered without inspection.

Under those circumstances, your will have to leave the United States for 10 years and then your employer could file paperwork and petition for you to reenter the United States, that’s assuming you have been in the United States for one year without legal authorization.

If you are in the United States as a student or temporary visitor in legal status or lawful status, an employer could petition for you to either temporarily or permanently emigrate to the United States.

Depending on what type of job the employer is offering you would make a determination of what type of paperwork

you will file.If you are in the United States before Dec.

20, 2000 and your employer filed a petition on your behalf before April 30, 2001, when a visa becomes available in the future, you will be able to pay a $1,000 fine, it’s the provision of the law 245(i) that allows aliens who are in the United States illegally to just adjust their status based on that provision of the law.

But those two requirements of being here and having those petitions filed by those dates are required.

Therefore, if you are in the United States currently without legal authorization your employer cannot file a petition on your behalf to receive an immigration benefit.

AURORA – La policía de Aurora está investigando la posible muerte por ahogamiento de un hombre en el Río Fox.

El hombre de 52 años fue identificado como Gene Autry Pryor, de la cuadra 900 de Oliver Avenue.

Las autoridades dijeron que alrededor de las 7:09 p.m. del 6 de julio elementos de la policía y bomberos acudieron a una zona cerca de la Isla en Memoria de los Veteranos, al sur del puente de la Avenida Illinois, entre las rutas 25 y 31.

Alguien había reportado a un hombre que parecía no estar consciente ni respirando.

De acuerdo a la investigación inicial, Pryor estaba con tres amigos adultos, una mujer de 36 años y dos hombres de 48 y 43 años de edad, quienes aparentemente habían estado consumiendo alcohol por un largo periodo de tiempo.

Authorities investigate death of Aurora man

AURORA – Aurora Police is investigating the possible death by drowning of a man on the Fox River.

The 52 year-old man was identified as Gene Autry Pryor, of the 900 block of Oliver Avenue.

Authorities said that at about 7:09 p.m. July 6, Aurora Fire and Police personnel responded to an area off Veteran’s Memorial Island, located south of the Illinois Avenue Bridge between Routes 31 and 25.

Someone had reported a man who was neither conscious nor breathing.

According to the initial investigation, the deceased man, Gene Autry Pryor, of the 900 block of Oliver Avenue, was with three adult friends, a 36 year-old woman and two men, ages 48 and 43, who apparently had been drinking alcohol for an extended period of time.

According to witnesses, Pryor jumped into the water in an attempt to cool off. After several minutes, his friends lost sight of him and eventually saw him floating face down in the river. The two males went to his aid and pulled him ashore, where paramedics found him. Pryor was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said there does not appear to be any foul play involving Pryor’s death, but are waiting for the results of the autopsy.

Aurora man charged with burglary in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES – An Aurora man was arrested when he was surprised by police burglarizing a home in St. Charles.

Police responded to a call at about 10:17 a.m. July 9, after a man saw another man wearing a green safety vest looking into a rear sliding glass door of his home, located in the 2700 block of Turnberry road in St. Charles.

The resident heard glass breaking in the basement, called police and hid in an upstairs bedroom.

The resident heard the man opening the door to the basement and ransacked the rooms in the home.

When police arrived officers saw how the man was leaving the home and started chasing him on foot. The man ran through a wooded area and turned north on Kirk Road, where authorities eventually arrested him.

The suspect was identified as Aric A. Liberati, 35, and resident of the 2300 block of Twilight Drive in Aurora. The man has been charged with one felony count of residential burglary and one misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property.

Liberati has an large criminal history and he was on parole, after being release March 6 from prison, where he served time for controlled substance possession. He also had been charged in the past with two counts of residential burglary, one in Cook County and another one in DuPage County.

AURORA – Aurora pastor Howard Richmond is back in jail, after a DuPage County judge increase his bond by $100,000.

The bond was increased after hearing the latest in a series of charges about alleged financial misconduct by the pastor.

Richmond was free awaiting his trial for charges that he stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from three men, one of them a member of his congregation at Life Reach Ministries Worldwide in Aurora. Then he was accused of paying $114, 000 in church rent with a bad check in June.

The prosecutor said that amount was part of a settlement between Richmond and the property owner to pay back rent.

Richmond had convinced an acquaintance to write a check for him until he could transfer funds to the church account, and in exchange, Richmond would deposit $130,000 to this person’s account, something that didn’t happen.

Richmond was charged for the first time two years ago, when he was accused of stealing over $470,000 from three men, allegedly to purchase the property where the congregation meets, at 4054 Fox Valley Center Drive.

Five arrested in prostitution sting

AURORA – Five people were arrested the night of July 7 in a prostitution sting in Aurora.

Police said four women were charged with prostitution: Luzan Yaroslava, 46, Elmhurst; Shelby Gibson, 34, Streamwood; Jungsil Kim, 45, DesPlaines; and Arabica Beasley, 27, of Forrest City, Arkansas. A man was also charged with prostitution: Tomas Resendiz, 36, of Aurora.

Authorities declined to say where the arrests took place.

Chemical leak in Elgin causes road closures

ELGIN – The high temperatures from July 6 may have contributed to the leak of nonhazardous chemicals from a trailer in Elgin.

Fire Department officials said a trailer carrying several 500-gallon containers of a petroleum based product, was crossing the train tracks at McLean Boulevard near Big Timber Road, at about 8:30 a.m. July 6, when the driver heard a noise and stopped. The driver then noticed a leak in the trailer.

The tanks inside the trailer were full to capacity and is possible the heat had caused the lids to come off.

Most of the contents of the containers was spilled on the streets and the area had to be closed for four hours to clean up the spill.

The chemical, a water soluble product used in industrial lubricants and cleaning agents, was considered non hazardous, according to Elgin Battalion Chief Bryan McMahan.

Cleaning crews used water on the streets because the chemical had seeped into nearby sewer lines.

WEST CHICAGO – Three teenagers are behind bars charged with causing severe injuries to a man who was enjoying a picnic in West Chicago.

David Flores, 18, of the 400 block of Fifth Street in Aurora, was charged with aggravated assault and attempted armed robbery. He is the third of three suspects arrested by police in connection

with this incident that took place in late June.According to authorities Flores and the

other two men attempted to rob the victim while he enjoyed a picnic with his girlfriend at about 7:30 p.m. June 24 at Pioneer Park, 479 W. Forest Ave.

Authorities said the three men had demanded money and then beat the victim in the face and body before one of Flores’ accomplices stabbed the man twice in the chest. The victim

suffered a perforated lung.The other two suspects, Alejandro DelaCruz,

17, of West Chicago ,and Irbin Rocha, 18, of Lisle, are charged with aggravated battery and attempted armed robbery. Both were arrested shortly after the attack.

According to authorities, DelaCruz is the one who stabbed the victim. He is being held on $100,000 bail. Flores’ bail has been set at $150,000. Flores had been previously charged

with mob action by a juvenile.Authorities didn’t say how they had been

able to locate Flores, however, a prosecutor said an arrest warrant had been issued last month and several police agencies were looking for him.

Rocha has several arrests in his record for reckless conduct and retail theft, while DelaCruz was on parole for battery and aggravated assault.

Driver services facility changes location in Rockford

ROCKFORD – State officials confirmed that one of the offices that provides services to drivers in Rockford is moving to a new location.

Officers said the office currently located at 3814 Auburn Street will close its doors once the lease contract expires July 29, and it will open its doors at a new facility at 4752 Baxter Road in September. The new facilities are along Route I-39 near the Maggio Truck Center.

State representatives said negotiations with the owner of the current facility fell through and that’s the reason why they are moving to a new place. Beth Kaufman, spokesperson for the Illinois Secretary of State, said that the current location needed maintenance in the parking lot and inside the offices, but negotiations had gotten nowhere.

Meanwhile the owner of the facility, Bill Pritz, said the actual lease had expired in April, but that state officials had requested and received a 90 day extension on the lease.

He said that as far as he was concerned, state officials were considering his terms for a new lease, which included a slight increase in rent to cover snow removal services and to help cover expenses related to parking lot maintenance and interior repairs.

Once this office closes its doors, drivers who need commercial driver’s licenses will have to go to Elk Grove Village, West Chicago, DeKalb or Princeton until September, when the new office will be functional.

People who don’t need commercial driver’s licenses can receive services at the secretary of state facility at 3720 E. State St. in Rockford.

State officials said the new location will be more accessible for bus and trailer drivers given its proximity to I-39 and I-90. The new place is an existing building with larger and newly paved parking.

Besides services for commercial drivers, the new facility will offer the following services: drivers’ licenses, learner permits, vision, written and practice tests, license duplicates, renewals, state identification cards, organ and donor registration, voters registration, title registration and vehicle stickers.

ROCKFORD – Oficiales estatales confirmaron que una de las oficinas de servicios a automovilistas del estado en Rockford va a cambiar de dirección.

Dichos oficiales dijeron que la oficina localizada en el 3814 Auburn Street, cerrará una vez que la renta de este local expire el 29 de julio y abrirá en septiembre en el 4752 Baxter Road, junto a la ruta I-39 cerca de Maggio Truck Center.

El estado dijo que habían fallado las negociaciones con los dueños del lugar y por eso estaban cerrando esta oficina. ROCKFORD – A Rockford police officer, Steve Tamasino, who has been on the police force since 1987, has sued the city and the chief of police, because he was passed over for a promotion he believes he deserved, after he defended his wife from harassment.

In spring 2011 Tamasino’s wife, who is also a police officer, said she had been sexually harassed by other police officers at work.

The lawsuit states that the City of Rockford Department of Human

Resources found that the woman had been harassed and that the actions of the officers involved would make any woman feel uncomfortable.

During the whole process, Tamasino stuck up for his wife and said he had been a witness to some of the harassment taking place.

The lawsuit states that last spring Rockford Police posted 11 openings for investigator jobs. Tamasino states in the lawsuit that he was more qualified for the post than most of the applicants and that he was passed over for that

promotion.Tamasino’s attorney said Chief of

Police Chet Epperson was acting in retaliation for defending his wife.

Due to this situation and the stress it caused, his wife Gina quit her job at the police department.

The lawsuit is seeking compensation of almost a million dollars, but the attorney said this is not about money but the job he deserves.

Meanwhile, Rockford officials said the situation was handled accordingly and it will respond to the allegations in court.

El registro se realizará de la siguiente manera:Los hogares con cuando menos una persona que tenga 60 años o más deberán

registrarse el 11, 12 y16 de julio.Los hogares con cuando menos una persona que reciba beneficios de

discapacidad del seguro social o con un caso pendiente ante la Administración del Seguro Social deberán registrarse el 17, 18 y 19 de julio.

Los hogares que tengan una persona con una condición médica que pueda mejorar usando aire acondicionado como enfisema, enfermedades coronarias o enfermedades terminales pueden registrarse el 23 y24 de julio.

Los hogares con niños de cinco años o menos pueden registrarse el 25 y 26 de julio. Se requiere prueba de la edad de los niños con el acta de nacimiento.

El programa otorga un pago de 150 dólares al proveedor de servicios electricidad. No todos los solicitantes recibirán el beneficio.

WASHINGTON – The Mexican criminal group ‘Los Zetas’ used bank accounts at Bank of America for money laundering activities, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper states the link between the crime group and the second-largest bank in the U.S. was confirmed in court documents submitted in Texas, where authorities are prosecuting members of the crime organization for using horse businesses for money laundering purposes.

Jose Trevino Morales, brother of the second-in-command of Los Zetas, was the head of the horse-breeding and racing business in the United States. He was arrested last month after months of investigation.

According to the newspaper, Jose Trevino was in charge of investing, transferring and withdrawing money from Bank of America accounts under his name and under the business name.

“According to an FBI agent, a horse purchasing and training business created to launder money from drug trafficking had accounts at a bank branch in Charlotte,” said CNN Expansion.

Until now Bank of America has not been charged of any wrongdoing and is cooperating with authorities.

By law, U.S. financial institutions must report to authorities any suspicious activity or cash activity over $10,000.

According to testimony by FBI agent Jason Preece, Trevino Morales conducted about a dozen transactions since 2009 for a total of $1.5 million.

DALLAS – The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) is investigating an incident in which two Border Patrol agents allegedly opened fire after being attacked, killing a Mexican citizen.

The incident took place July 17 when, according to Border Patrol sources, the agents had opened fire after being attacked with stones and seeing a man on the Mexican side of the border pointing at them with a firearm.

Mexican officials with the Foreign Ministry at the Mexican Consulate in Brownsville have sent a message to U.S. authorities demanding an in-depth investigation of the incident.

Border Patrol spokesman Henry Mendiola said several people had been taken under custody, but didn’t provide information as to what charges they were facing.

Mendiola said one of the agents opened fire after he was “unable to take cover” when stones were thrown at

him, while the other agent had used his weapon when he saw a suspect on the other side of the river pointing a gun at him.

The incident took place at the Los Tomates-Veterans international bridge, located between Matamoros, Tamaulipas and Brownsville, Texas. U.S. Border Patrol officers have not revealed what the suspects were doing by the side of the river.

According to available information, the agents informed their supervisors of the incident, but said they didn’t know if someone had been injured.

Meanwhile “The Mexican government has said once again that ht disproportionate use of force for purposes of immigration enforcement is unacceptable under any circumstances,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Officially U.S. authorities have not linked the shooting incident to the discovery of the body of a man on the Mexican side of the border who had been killed by gunfire.

De acuerdo al periódico, José Treviño estaba a cargo de invertir, trasferir y retirar dinero de cuentas de Bank of America abiertas en su nombre y a nombre del negocio.

“De acuerdo con un agente del FBI, un negocio de compra y entrenamiento de caballos creado para lavar dinero del narcotráfico tenía cuentas en una sucursal del banco en Charlotte”, publicó CNN Expansión.

Hasta ahora Bank of América no ha sido acusado de ningún crimen y está cooperando con las autoridades.

Por ley, las instituciones financieras estadounidenses deben reportar a las autoridades cualquier transacción sospechosa o actividad en efectivo superior a los 10 mil dólares.

En un testimonio bajo juramento, el agente Jason Preece del FBI dijo que Treviño Morales había realizado alrededor de 12 transacciones desde 2009 por un total de 1.5 millones de dólares.

CD. DE MÉXICO – El actor y comediante Eugenio Derbez y la cantante Alessandra Rosaldo finalmente unieron sus destinos el 7 de julio, en una ceremonia de telenovela, que incluyó incidentes inesperados.

La ceremonia se realizó en la parroquia Regina Coeli, en el centro histórico de la Ciudad de México, hasta donde llegaron cientos de manifestantes del movimiento #Yosoy132. Los manifestantes corearon estrofas del Himno Nacional y portaron pancartas con letreros de protesta por los resultados de las elecciones presidenciales.

“Está bien que se manifiesten, finalmente los entiendo. Lástima que agarren la boda como foro, pero bueno, para todos hay. Esta es la mejor producción de mi vida y lo que falta. Estoy con ellos, porque yo tampoco voté por Peña, voté diferente y ni modo”, dijo Derbez a su paso por la alfombra roja al salir de su boda civil y dirigirse a la ceremonia religiosa.

La boda civil se realizó en un salón del Claustro de Sor Juana, en un área cercana a la iglesia.

El enlace fue transmitido en vivo por la cadena Televisa, quien corrió con los gastos de producción.

“Llegamos a un acuerdo que fue que Televisa pagara la boda y decidimos hacerlo grande y o.k. que nos pague la producción, creo que es un buen arreglo y un buen ajuste”, dijo Derbez de este acuerdo.

Debido a la manifestación y a las fuertes medidas de seguridad, muchos de los invitados no pudieron llegar a la boda ni a la recepción, por lo que expresaron su desencanto en las redes sociales.

“Yo era la madrina de este cuento de hadas… Y mis jovenes mexicanos NO me dejaron llegara abrazar a los novios!” tuiteó en su cuenta oficial Consuelo Duval, actriz que participa en el exitoso programa de Derbez “La Familia P.Luche”.

Alrededor de 800 personas fueron invitadas a la boda.

Derbez siempre dijo que él nunca se iba a casar, y hace años protagonizó una boda que resultó ser falsa con la actriz Victoria Ruffo. Sin embargo, Rosaldo lo convenció y ahora, después de más de seis años de relación, son marido y mujer.

MEXICO CITY – Actor and comedian Eugenio Derbez and singer Alessandra Rosaldo finally tied the knot July 7, in a ceremony out of a soap opera that included some unforeseen incidents.

The religious wedding ceremony took place at the Regina Coeli Parish in the historical district of Mexico City. Outside the church hundreds of protestors from the #Yosoy132

movement gathered to sing the National Anthem and protest for the results of the presidential elections held the previous weekend.

“It’s ok for them to protest, y understand them. What a shame that they use a wedding as a forum, but oh, well, there’s something for everyone. This is the best production of my life, and what’s still to come. I’m with them, because I didn’t vote for Peña, I vote different, but what are you going to do,” Derbez said

while he walked the red carpet on his way to the religious ceremony right after the civil wedding.

The civil ceremony took place in a room at the Sor Juana Monastery near the church. The wedding was broadcast live by Mexican TV network Televisa, which covered all the wedding expenses.

“We reached an agreement that Televisa was paying for the wedding and we decided to go big, and ok, they pay for the production, I think it’s a good agreement and a good adjustment,” Derbez said.

About 800 people were invited to the nuptials.
