Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 8, 2018

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

They took offense at him. Jesus said to them, “A prophet is

not without honor except in his native place and among his

own kin and in his own house.” So he was not able to per-

form any mighty deed there, apart from curing a few sick

people by laying his hands on them. He was amazed at their

lack of faith. [Mark 6: 4-6a]

What is a prophet? Theologian Bruce Vawter said the

Prophets were “the conscience of Israel.” Their job is to hear

the Word of God and to discern his will. God’s will is always

right-relationship, justice and mercy. So the prophet’s job

was to proclaim the good news of God’s Presence and de-

clare also what was NOT his will. Thus, prophets announced

the Justice of God and denounced the injustice of human be-

ings.

How about us? The prophetic function of the human heart

is called conscience. This is where we are being formed as

holy people, leaning into the presence of God and learning

his will. The delicate art of forming one’s own conscience is

tough in most families because “everybody already knows

who you are.” Really? Just as we struggle with people being

open to the new creativity of certain members of our fami-

lies, so did Jesus, because they had “never seen anything like

this before.” Faith is a matter of deep respect and acceptance

of the mystery of the “other.”

Questions for the week: What gifts do people not recog-

nize in you? How have you grown in developing your con-

science in discerning God’s Word in your life? [hint: God’s

Word Among Us]

Your Pastor, Fr. Bob

Domingo Catorce en el Tiempo Ordinario

8 de Julio, 2018

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos:

[Marcos 6: 4-6 a]

Word from Pope Francis

“When exhaling this air, we announced Jesus Christ risen by the same Spirit. No one can live without breathing. It is the same for the Christian: without praise and mission there is not Christian life. And with praise, worship. We rarely speak about worship. What do we do when we pray? We ask things of God, we give thanks. But worshipping and adoring God is part of breathing – praise and worship.”

“Rainy Day Fund” Second Collection: Please help us pay for the new stair rails on the altar and other major needs for church renovation.

“See you in September …!!??” We know that everyone needs to enjoy some time away and vacations can be holy times of refreshment and re-

newal for our families. But PLEASE, remember your parish family in your faithful tithes through the summer months because we still have to

pay for the electricity and functioning of buildings even while we are away at play.

Church “Vandalism”- we need your help: A few of your chil-dren have been taking the red rocks out of the church sign box

and throwing them around the yard area. This creates havoc when we mow the grass, slinging rocks that cause damage to

others property and to the blades of the mower. Please help us discourage [forbid!] your children from playing with these

rocks.

Use of the NURSERY: The Nursery is there to help par -ents keep the little ones busy while we are at Mass and special

activities. If your children use the Nursery, YOU are responsi-ble for putting it back together when they leave. The nursery

should NOT be left in chaos. Such abuse will mean that they will not be able to use it. Please be responsible for your chil-

dren when you use the nursery!

Lectors Training Workshops: Every year lectors need to review their skills in proclaiming God’s Word. We need MORE LECTORS to

fulfill this important function at our liturgies. Will you help us “get the Word out?” Contact our Lector Coordinator, Barbara Miller, 912-337-

3385. Come to church this Tuesday night, July 10, at 6:15PM or the following Monday night, July 16.

Y nosotros alabamos, adorando.
