Sing to the Lord a New Song... using new hymnals! Breaking Bread —our new hymnal, combines elements of a hymnal and a missal. It is up-
dated with new music each year, and it contains more than 850 songs! Breaking Bread in-
cludes the Order of Mass and incorporates different Mass settings that are faithful to the
new translation of the Roman Missal. In addition, Breaking Bread combines a synopsis of the
Lectionary readings for every Sunday of the year along with the assembly responses to the
proclamation of the Scripture. It also includes proper liturgical rituals of the church with
their corresponding music. Breaking Bread is a very good tool for evangelization and for
our continuing formation as Christ’s disciples.
Flor y Canto III —our hymnal for the Spanish-speaking congregation in our parish also
provides great tools for evangelization and discipleship formation. Flor y Canto has over 740 songs from more
than 15 Spanish-speaking regions from around the world including different regions in the US. Flor y Canto also
includes the liturgical rites of the church with their corresponding music. Like Breaking Bread it also contains dif-
ferent Mass settings that faithfully present the new translation of the Roman Missal.
Canten al Señor un Cántico Nuevo... ¡utilizando nuevos himnarios!

COMMUNITY CATECHESIS
You are Peter, and I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven.
Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul Week of June 29, 2014
Listen to the Word (Matthew 16:13-19)
As you listen to this Scripture story today, what is one word or thought that really struck you? What image do you take away from
this reading?
Look into your life Question for children: Who do you say that Jesus is? Question for youth: How does the way you live your life show that you are a follower of Christ? Question for adults: Before the Resurrection, Peter denied Je-sus three times. But in today’s Gospel, we hear about a Peter who has unshakable faith. He clearly proclaims that Jesus is Christ, the Son of the living God. What can you do to strengthen your faith and draw nearer to Christ?
Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect: • In order to love someone, we need to really get to know that
person. And getting to know someone takes time. Invite family members to share about a person they really know well and love. Then discuss how we can really get to know Jesus.
• Talk about how if we really know and love Jesus, we live as his followers. Invite family members to share how they show they are followers of Jesus by their actions.
• Peter remained faithful even in difficult times. Talk about how your family remains faithful even when life is difficult. Or talk about a person you know who has remained faithful to God even when life has been difficult.
• Discuss the following question: Who do you say that Jesus is?
CATEQUESIS COMUNITARIA

Catholics on vacation should always make time for Sunday Mass. The locations for churches and the times of services are easy to obtain on line. Remember it doesn’t
take much planning to include worship as part of your time away from home. If you know in ad-
vance that you cannot attend Mass some Sunday while vacationing, you should obtain a dispensa-
tion; however, make an effort to worship every Sunday, even when you are away from home.
Remember that God never takes a vacation from us!

Stewardship: A disciple’s prayerful response to God’s blessings!
PACEM IN TERRIS
Governmental authority, therefore,
is a postulate of the moral order and
derives from God. Consequently, laws
and decrees passed in contravention of
the moral order, and hence of the di-
vine will, can have no binding force in
conscience, since "it is right to obey
God rather than men [sic]."
Indeed, the passing of such laws un-
dermines the very nature of authority
and results in shameful abuse. As St.
Thomas teaches, "In regard to the second proposi-
tion, we maintain that human law has the rationale
of law in so far as it is in accordance with right
reason, and as such it obviously derives from eter-
nal law. A law which is at variance with reason is
to that extent unjust and has no longer the rationale
of law. It is rather an act of violence." (51)

SPECIAL COLLECTION
Every three years the Archdiocese of Atlanta will hold a special collection for the Archdiocese of
Military Services (AMS) and our parish will take up this collection next weekend. The guiding mission of the AMS is to provide the sacraments—and the re-affirming word of Christ—to the men and women serving in our armed forces, pa-tients in VA medical centers, civilians working for the federal government be-
yond US borders, and the families of these popu-lations. To provide this service they need your help—the AMS receives no federal funding. Please prayerfully consider a generous contribu-tion to the first-ever national Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services.
COLECTA ESPECIAL
