Founded in 1908 in Flint, by William C. Durant.

Global headquarter -Detroit

Employs -approximately 209,000 people

It does business in 120 countries.

GMs highest sales are reported from China, followed by the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Russia.

( Baojun, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, FAW, GMC, Daewoo, Holden, Isuzu, Jiefang, Opel, Vauxhall, and Wuling under its umbrella)

BUSINESS EXPANSION

1928 - AssemblingChevrolet cars, trucks and buses.

Tie-up with Hindustan Motors to build Bedford trucks, Vauxhall cars, and off-road equipment.

1994- General Motors India Private Limited (GMIPL) was formed as a 50-50 joint venture between GM and Hindustan Motors.

1999 - GMIPL started out producing and selling Opel vehicles.

Till 2003, the company continued to produce Opel cars. (Later, it switched to producing Chevrolet vehicles at the same plant).

2009- Joint Venture with SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation)

DEALERS-

GM Dealer Development-is the umbrella organization supporting GM's diverse dealer network. Its mission is to create a profitable dealer network across all GM brands that reflects consumer diversity in the United States.

The GM Dealer Development organization supports three specific programs:

Minority Dealer Development (MDD)

It was launched in 1972.

Its focus is on developing, building and retaining a profitable minority

dealer network in the United States.

TheGM Womens Retail Network (WRN)

It was launched in 2001.

It was developed exclusively to attract and develop women dealers in

automotive retail management and other stakeholders working

together to achieve profitability, growth of GM women dealers.

TheNational Candidate Program

It is the training and development arm of the Dealer Development program.
