PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

We are one community nourished and transformed by the Eucharist.

As the body of Christ, we are led by the Holy Spirit to know, love and serve God and one another.

STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD

Gratitude in Action: Our Way of Life / Gratitud en Acción: Nuestra forma de Vida

Today, I die. Once again, day by day, I die to self for love

of God.

Some days that dying is small; I hardly notice it occurring.

Other days, that death of self within me overshadows all

else in my life. Whatever spiritual good this dying may

bring about in me, and it WILL bring good, I cannot see, I

cannot feel, for the pain and heartache of my vulnerable

humanity rises above all else.

How could God allow this suffering? I pray, I give of

myself for my neighbor, and I do love God, seeking not to

offend Him. Why then, would He let this pain, this darkness,

enter my life? Why would He let it overtake me to the

point of turning away from Him?

Evening comes and with it the dark of night that embraces

the darkness pervading within me. It seems I cannot

escape; sleep does not come, only restlessness. Finally, in

God’s merciful goodness, He offers me that short time of

fruitful slumber in His loving arms, a time when He lifts

the Cross’ weight which has become so heavy to bear.

Morning dawns. I recall yesterday’s death, still feeling

some of the pain, but refreshed to face the new day and the

selfless dying it will offer. I am encouraged; sin did not

destroy the relationship with my God which has become

so important, so special in my life. God did not let go of

me. I am His; I belong to Him.

Perhaps today’s death experience will be easier, or perhaps

it will be even more difficult. I may struggle greatly. Through

it all, I will survive; I will be stronger. God is with me; He

will not abandon me. God is Love, and Love is mine.

“The world you are inheriting is a world which needs to

be touched and healed by the beauty and richness of

God’s love. It needs witnesses to that love. The world

needs salt. It needs you—to be the salt of the earth and the

light of the world....

Do not let that hope die! Stake your lives on it! We are not

the sum of our weaknesses and failures; we are the sum of

the Father’s love for us and our real capacity to become

the image of his Son. –St. John Paul II”1

TRAERÁ algo bueno, no puedo ver, no puedo sentir,

Rezo, me

entrego por mi prójimo, y amo a Dios, buscando no

ofenderlo.

Dios no me soltó. Soy su; Yo le

pertenezco.

–St. Juan Pablo II"1

Pastor’s Message by Father Oscar Martin Picos

11th

Sunday in Ordinary Time / Décimo Primer Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

sembrar, no cosechar.

Jesus was concerned that His followers

would one day be discouraged when they saw

that their efforts for a more humane and

happy world had not achieved the anticipated

success. Would they then forget the Kingdom

of God? Would they keep their trust in the

Father? Most importantly, would they

continue to work?

Using examples taken from the experience of the peasants

of Galilee, He encouraged them to work realistically, with

patience and confidence, and to examine how God works.

The first thing they needed to realize was that their task was

to sow, not harvest. They would not live pending the

results. They did not have to worry about efficacy or

immediate success. Their focus would be on sowing the

Gospel well. The collaborators of Jesus must be sowers,

nothing else.

After centuries of religious expansion and great social

power, we Christians need to recover in the Church the

humble gesture of the sower. Forget the logic of the

harvester who only goes out to collect fruits and enter into

the patient logic of sowing a better future.

Initial sowings are always humble. Even more so when

they are about sowing the Project of God in the human

being. According to Jesus, the strength of the Gospel is

comparable to planting something as small and

insignificant as "a grain of mustard seed" that germinates

quietly in the hearts of people.

Therefore, the Gospel can only be sown with faith. It is

what Jesus wants us to understand through His parables.

God's Project of making a more humane world carries

within it a saving and transforming force that will no longer

depend entirely on the sower. When the Good News of God

penetrates a single person, it begins to grow something that

surpasses the former life.
