Jerez es una gran ciudad donde la tradición convive en perfecta armonía con la más pura modernidad: grandes centros comerciales y avenidas confluyen en un centro histórico alegre y bullicioso, donde las compras y el tapeo se dan la mano. Los orígenes de las actuales cofradías de la Semana Santa Jerezana hay que buscarlos en el siglo XVI. Es en esta centuria cuando se fundan las primeras hermandades cuyo fin era hacer penitencia pública durante los días más señalados de la cuaresma.

En Jerez, la mayor parte de las primeras cofradías están ligadas a dominicos, franciscanos, agustinos, mercedarios y trinitarios

Historia

Tras siglos de evolución propia, los desfiles pasionales jerezanos habían llegado a tener una forma característica que se fue perdiendo influenciada por modas que pretendían equiparar a las cofradías jerezanas con las de Sevilla.

Llegaron los grandes pasos de misterio, los grandes palios (en algunos casos bordados por artífices de la talla de Rodríguez Ojeda), la plata y la pléyade de figuras talladas por escultores como Castillo Lastrucci, los Chaveli o el soberbio Ortega Bru.

Por todo esto, podemos concluir que la Semana Santa jerezana tiene gran interés desde el punto de vista artístico

Jerez actualmente tiene 39 Hermandades y Cofradías que procesionan por las calles de diferentes puntos de la ciudad. Vamos a nombrarlas y exponer sus imágenes titulares.

La hermosa imagen de vestir de Nuestro Padre Jesús del Prendimiento es de autor documentalmente desconocido, pero se trata de una obra casi segura de Camacho de Mendoza, imaginero y arquitecto .

La talla del Señor es magistral y resulta siempre deslumbrante. De ella se ha dicho que su calidad y belleza no necesitan comentarios, que hay que verla, porque las palabras nunca serán un reflejo de los múltiples sentimientos que despierta y que su contemplación sugiere
