INTRODUCTION City not fit to live due to improper town planning

Solution is to provide improved transportaion technology

Present solution: Metro rail, but is it possible in congested area?

Monorail is possible in congested areas.

As name implies : single rail on which train transport system runs

Monorail is unique mass system It can be put up in any congested area

Provide ease of transportation

Connects arteries and veins of the city.

HISTORY OF MONORAIL

Concept developed since 1800,first monorail in Russia in 1820.

First monorail was demonstrated in 1886 in New Jersey and are

closer in appearance to modern monorail.

Due to massive expansion on road and air transport system after

second world war, monorail was the first one to be abandoned.

But came again into existence due to its eco friendly

characteristics

Gyro monorail: It was first true monorail.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

Magnetic Levitation (Maglev)

Requires electromagnetic current to generate magnetic field.

Superconducting electric magnets in the vehicle to levitate and propel the train

Page 6: seminar Main presentation

CONTD… An AC is ran through electromagnet coil

Creates a magnetic field that attracts and repels the

superconducting magnets

Revesring the direction of AC: braking.

Varying intensity of AC : speed change

CONSTRUCTION

Dig a hole

Drop in a pre-built support pylon,

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MONORAIL AND METRORAIL

MONORAIL METRORAILRails Single rail Two railsConstruction time B/w 3-4 years Over 5-6 yearsPassengers capacity per hour

Suitability Congested areas having sharp curve

Open area having no sharp curve

Average speed 165 km/h 100 km/hExpenditure Rs 120 – 140 crore per

More compared to monorail

Cost Rs 8-20 Rs 8-30

ADVANTAGES Monorail can be built faster with less cost.

Consumes minimal space.

Serves as Feeder lines for denser cities

Environmental friendly uses no carbon derived fuels

No risk of vehicles getting struck in crossings

Practically silent while travelling

Contributes Greener Environment

Regularly operates at 99.99% reliability.

FUTURE SCOPE

With the development of monorail and its advantages over

conventional rail system, monorail is the technology for the future.

Monorail will be hitting the rapid construction and operation

replacing the conventional system. Operation of monorail will be

saving the precious fuel. With more research works going on about

the monorail it can be made more advanced and more environmental

friendly.

Page 16: seminar Main presentation

CONCLUSION

With the increase in the construction technology of Monorail ,it can

reduce the use of city buses in narrow and busy road and will

provide comfort to the passengers because of its suitability in the

congested areas. As it connect the arteries and veins of the city and

proves to be environmental friendly it is going to replace various

modes of transportation which affect environment. With the increase

in the population it is necessary for the advancement of transport

technology in order to provide systematic way of transportation in the

near future; for which monorail can be the best alternative.
