2 Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time June 12, 2016 HOPE AND FORGIVENESS There were some interesting conceptions of sin prevalent in the time of the Hebrew scriptures. There was the belief that God punished sin immediately. Those who suffered disease or misfortune were, therefore, sinners getting their due from the Almighty. Today’s first reading hints at another kind of God. When David admits his sin, Nathan declares, “The LORD on his part has forgiven your sin” (2 Samuel 12:13b). Here was not a vengeful God but a merciful God. What good news that must have been to David and those who, like him, could be honest enough to admit their sinfulness! Jesus is the good news of God’s mercy and forgiveness incarnate. Without Jesus, perhaps the good news would have been too good to believe, too difficult to imagine. But there he is in today’s Gospel, the God-man, forgiving a sinner and declaring that she is forgiven because of her great love. There is hope, then, for the rest of us sinners, if only we love enough! Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

ESPERANZA Y PERDÓN Había algunas concepciones interesantes sobre el pecado que prevalecían en la época de las Escrituras hebreas. Había la creencia de que Dios castigaba inmediatamente el pecado. Los que sufrían alguna enfermedad o desgracia eran, por lo tanto, pecadores que recibían su merecido del Todopoderoso. La primera lectura de hoy nos muestra a otro tipo de Dios.

Cuando David admite su pecado, Natán declara: “El Señor ha perdonado tu pecado” (2 Samuel 12:13b). Aquí no era un Dios vengativo sino un Dios misericordioso. ¡Qué buena nueva debe haber sido eso para David y para los que, como él, eran lo suficientemente honestos como para admitir su pecaminosidad! Jesús es la buena nueva de la misericordia y el perdón de Dios hecho carne. Sin Jesús, quizás la buena nueva hubiera sido demasiado buena como para creerla, demasiado difícil de imaginar. Pero allí está en el Evangelio de hoy, el Dios-hombre, perdonando a una pecadora y declarando que está perdonada debido a su gran amor. ¡Hay esperanza, entonces, para el resto de nosotros pecadores, si tan sólo amamos lo suficiente! Question for Children: This week, how can you welcome someone at school or in your neighborhood who is feeling left out? Question for Youth: Jesus was able to see the faith of the woman, even though she was a sinner. Who is in need of your forgiveness, even though they have done you harm? What is one way that you can offer forgiveness to someone in the weeks to come? Question for Adults: How can you show compassion toward the marginalized members of society today?

Reflection: The early feminist leader Sara Norton said, "Perhaps there will come a time when the right of the unborn to be born will not be denied or interfered with." Authentic feminism is pro-life, because it takes seriously the message of equality – and that includes children.

Prayer: Lord, you have exalted the vocation of motherhood with honor and dignity. May all mothers see that their happiness lies in giving themselves away in love to their family and to You! Amen!

Father's Day Mass Cards

Father's Day is coming. June 19th, Father’s Day is celebrated in the United States. Remembering our fathers is always an important part of the day. If you would like your father remembered in a special way at the celebration of Masses on June 19th through June 26th, please use the Father’s Day Mass Cards that are available at the entrances of the Church. Please bring them to the Parish office before Thurs, June 16th.

May our fathers, living and deceased, be honored by the quality of our love, lives, and remembrance. We have a variety of beautiful Father’s Day cards.

Father’s Day Collection for Retired Diocesan Priests June 18-19, 2016

Each year, in December, a collection is taken to assist the retirement of many religious communities in the United States. This includes both men and women religious who have served us in the Church. Over the past 22 years you have been very generous and supportive of this Retirement Collection. At present, there is a special need that we wish to bring to your attention. It is the need of our local Diocesan Retired Priests. The Diocese of San Bernardino has 42 retired priests. Present day needs, such as, longevity, ongoing health care, aging needs, housing, and inflationary costs continue to increase our liability. The purpose of this special Father’s Day Appeal will be to assist Diocesan Priests in need and to continue building an endowment fund to provide for future needs of the retired. These growing demands are stretching our resources to the limits. God bless you for your generosity in responding to this appeal.

Colecta del Día del Padre para los Sacerdotes Diocesanos Jubilados 18-19 de junio de 2016

Cada año en diciembre, hay una colecta para asistir los jubilados de varias comunidades religiosas en los Estados Unidos. Esto incluye hombres y mujeres religiosos, quienes nos han servido en la Iglesia. En los últimos 22 años, ustedes han sido muy generosos en apoyar esta Colecta de Jubilación. Actualmente, nos encontramos con una necesidad especial que nos gustaría darles a conocer: la necesidad de nuestros sacerdotes diocesanos jubilados locales. Hoy, la Diócesis de San Bernardino tiene 42 sacerdotes jubilados. Las necesidades del presente como atención médica continua, necesidades del envejecimiento, vivienda y costos de inflación continúan aumentar nuestra responsabilidad. El propósito y el fruto de esta colecta especial para los Sacerdotes Diocesanos Jubilados es: para ayudar directamente a los sacerdotes diocesanos con necesidades y continuar incrementando un fondo para costear las necesidades futuras de los sacerdotes jubilados. Stewardship Prayer Oh God, filled with desire by your call for discipleship, while sharing our lives in imitation of your son Jesus Christ, and by following the footsteps of our Patroness, St. Frances X. Cabrini, we profess that the call requires us to be stewards of the gifts you have given us. As stewards we receive your gifts gratefully, cherish and tend them in a responsible manner. We share them in practice and love with others, and return them with increase to the Lord. We pledge to our ongoing formation as stewards and our responsibility to call others to the same mission. Almighty and ever faithful God, it is our fervent hope and prayer that You who have begun this good work in us will bring it to fulfillment for the greater honor of your Name, of your Son and your Holy Spirit.
