How does Lystek do it?
LYSTEK TECHNOLOGY
Patented technology utilizes a combination of heat
(temperature), high shear mixing and pH adjustment using
potassium hydroxide or other alkali solution
Breakthrough discovery creates safe, high solid (15-20%), low
viscosity, liquid fertilizer product
Effective treatment of dewatered raw sludges, and digested
municipal and industrial wastewater organics

What are the benefits?
IDEAL FOR ONSITE OPERATION
Small equipment footprint - operate onsite
Simple, proven, low cost equipment and operation
Fully automated process limited operator attention can be
operated by existing unionized staff
Can easily be integrated with dewatering equipment - centrifuge,
belt press, rotary press

9/18
What are the benefits?
BETTER ENVIRONMENTAL & SOCIAL PERFORMANCE
Produce a Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) registered
high solids liquid fertilizer product onsite
Eliminates odour complaints
- Fully enclosed from onsite processing to land application
Dust Free
No Risk of Fire
CFIA registered product can be stored virtually anywhere

and what else?
IMPROVED ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE
Fertilizer remains stable through freeze-thaw cycles proven,
homogeneous and pumpable
Pathogen free, no detectable regrowth during long term storage
(tested up to three years)
Produces a saleable liquid fertilizer product with a current
nutrient value of about $80 - $100/dry tonne

Other benefits?
ENHANCED PERFORMANCE OF ANAEROBIC DIGESTERS
Recycle lysed biosolids to Anaerobic Digester and BNR systems:
- Reduces biosolids generation > 30%
- Increases biogas yields > 40%
- Reduces storage requirements
Data from Guelph Project available for review

14/18
Other benefits?
ENHANCED PERFORMANCE OF ANAEROBIC DIGESTERS
A combination of heat, alkali and shear breaks the cells and lysed
biosolids provide a valuable and readily available source of
nutrient feedstock for the anaerobic microorganisms
Highly sheared and liquefied Lystek biosolids can improveconversion of volatile fatty acids by the anaerobic
microorganisms in the primary digestion process to increase
methane production and reduce biosolids volume by increasing
organic utilization rate
