WHAT IS ROBOTICS?
Robotics is the branch of technology that deals
with the design, construction, operation,
structural disposition, manufacture and
application of robots.
Robotics is related to the sciences of
electronics, engineering, mechanics, and
software.

WHAT IS A ROBOT?
A robot is a
mechanical or virtual
intelligent agent that
can perform tasksautomatically or with
guidance, typically by
remote control.

WHAT ARE WE GOING
TO LE ARN? We are going to build a robot.
We are going to program it so that it follows our
commands.

Build a robot from scratch can be very
intimidating and hard, so we are going to use arobot which is easy to build.
What is easier to build than LEGO?

THE ROBOT
This is the robot we are going to build.
Note that it is a product of building blocks. You
can make it however you want.

PRODUCT DET AILS
The robot were going to make was made by
LEGO® MINDSTORMS to introduce robots to
real life in an easy manner.
This robot is known as LEGO NXT 2.0. You can
buy this robot on Amazon.
Now, lets review the parts of the robot.

THE BR AIN OF THE
ROBOT This part of the robot,
known as the NXT brick.
This part will be referred
as 'brick'. It is the part of the robot which
deciphers your
programming and follows
the commands you give
to it. The four slots you
see are where you are
going to connect your
censors. There are two
other slots in the back.

THE EYES OF A ROBOT
This part of the robot is known as the ultrasonic
sensor. It calculates the distance from the
nearest object in front of it. It uses ultrasonic
waves to do this.

COLOR SENSOR AND
HE ADLIGHTS Since ultrasonic
supports only black
and white vision, this
sensor is used todetect color. This can
also be used a
headlight in the dark.
(Headlight color can
be user defined)

THE SKIN OF THE
ROBOT This sensor detects
touch by using a
small spring.
NOTE: This sensor
cannot detect what
material it touched,
just whether ittouched something of
not.

THE LEGS OF THE
ROBOT The 'Servo Motor'
follows commands
given by the brick. It
can move at a givenspeed for a given
time.

PROGR AMMING
What is programming? What does it do? How to do it?
Programming is the backend of a robot or the behind-
the-scenes part of the robot. It is the part of the robot
which commands it.It basically makes a set of rules for the robot to follow. You will understand this after some slides.
You can program the robot using the easy to use
software provided by LEGO®. It was made to be easy touse and simple.
