The Process
The Dewey Decimal Classification system provides a plan fororganizing fiction and nonfiction material. The organizationhelps make it easier to research and gather information onspecific topics. Most libraries use the Dewey DecimalClassification system to organize the library, so learning the
system now will help you throughout your future.
Step 1: Cadets, click the interactive program Do WeReally Know Dewey?
Cadets, working solo, each student must complete a worksheetfor credit.
Before you begin print the fill in the blank worksheet thataccompanies the interactive program. The worksheet willguide you through the program. Hang on to theworksheet until you have completed the entireWebQuest.

Step 2: Cadets, working in pairs, create a DDCbrochure.
Cadets, working in pairs you will create a stylish and funbrochure over the Dewey Decimal system. You can add to anddecorate the brochure the way you want, as long as therequired information is included.
Each pair will be given construction paper, white copy paper, colored pencils, and glue. You need to create a brochure usinginformation found in the links below. The brochure should beeasy to follow, neat, and include all 10 Dewey Groups. Look atyour worksheets to see a list of the 10 groups. In addition tothe 10 groups, the brochure should include examples of threesubgroups for each group. That means you should have the10 Dewey groups (divisions) and three examples of the type ofinformation you would find in a particular group.
Here is an example of the information required, but you need
to do one for each of the 10 groups.

its proper location. The Dewey Tator records the informationoff the spine of the book.
