Well , I think that I ’ve got nei ther f reedom norindependence.
I have my own nice room, I know, but I can’t enjoy i t ,
because I can never do what I please in i t .I a lso have my own bicycle , my own rol ler blades, my own
CD player, and even my own camera. But , I can’t enjoythem ei ther, because I can’t use them my own way. ( a modo mio )
I would l ike to have my own scooter to have the freedomto go where I l ike without wai t ing for buses that neverarr ive.
Besides I would l ike to have my own TV set in my own room, of course. Because I want to be able to watch thoseprogrammes that I l ike, and not those that my parentschoose.
But when I speak to my father about f reedom andindependence he always answers in the same way, “ My dearboy, one day, when you earn your own money, you wil l beable to buy a house of your own , you wil l a lso be able tobuy your own scooter, and have a TV set in your own room,and you wil l a lso be able to l ive on your own and dowhatever you l ike.”
And then he goes on, “But s ince you s t i l l l ive in the familyyou can’t do everything your own way .”
I understand what he means: Unti l I l ive in this house, Ican have ideas of my own , but I must go on l iving the wayhe wants .

Abel - Yes, I did. But this teacher makes us take a test everymonth. And last month she fai led me .
Debra - Oh, I see. So now you have to s tudy very hard not to fai l for the second t ime running.
Abel - Yes, I know, but las t month the test was real ly hard. Infact , out of twenty-eight pupi ls only nine passed it !
Debra - And when are you going to s i t for the f inal chemistryexam ?
Abel - In two months, I think. Look at the last pages of myschool diary. I t is there, on my bed.
Debra - This must be i t . There is a brochure that says: “FINALEXAMINATION DATES.”
Abel - Yes, that’s i t . Look under “chemistry”, please.
Debra - Here i t is . “Chemistry Examinat ion - June 12 t h , 8 :30 a .m.”
Abel - By the way, what about your French test ?
Debra - Oh, I passed the oral tes t with good marks! Next weekI’m going to s i t for the wri t ten test , and I’m qui te sure to pass i t too.

- When I was a boy at school , s tudy was the only thingthat interested me. I was always the f i rs t to arr ive atschool in the morning, and the last to leave when thelessons were over for the day.
This was because I loved every hour that I spent a tschool .
During the summer hol idays, I s tudied hard for severalhours every day, and al l the t ime I was looking forward to autumn, when school would begin again.
