El próximo viernes 21 de Abril comenzamos

un Novenario en honor a San José a las

6:30pm en la Escuela de San José. Todos están

cordialmente invitados.

ESPERA LO INESPERADO

Todos sabemos qué esperar para la Pascua: muchos lirios

junto al altar, el cantar una y otra vez nuestros gozosos

“aleluyas”, tal vez una cena con un rico jamón más tarde,

acabando con algunos chocolates de la canasta de Pascua.

Pero todo esto empezó, como escuchamos en el Evangelio de

hoy, cuando, inesperadamente, María Magdalena encontró la

tumba vacía. Es más, en la primera lectura, Pedro, en su

discurso en los Hechos podría haber insertado la frase “uno

hubiera esperado” en varios puntos…que Jesús bautizara a

Juan, y no al revés… que su ministerio de curar y liberar de

los demonios le hubiera ganado aclamación, y no la muer-

te… que su resurrección lo colocaría en otra dimensión, no

de vuelta a la mesa con sus seguidores. En un día como la

Pascua, un día lleno de tradiciones, costumbres y expectati-

vas, más que nunca somos llamados a seguir buscando la

voluntad de Dios en lugares, personas y sucesos inesperados.

De esta manera, podemos continuar dando testimonio, como

María Magdalena y Pedro, que Cristo de veras ha resucitado

de entre los muertos y continúa viviendo en medio nuestro.

Next Friday, April 21st, we begin a Novena in

honor of St. Joseph at 6:30 pm at St. Joseph

School. All are cordially invited.

EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED

We all know what to expect of Easter; lots of lilies around

the altar, our “Alleluia” joyfully sung over and over,

perhaps a tasty ham dinner later in the day, topped off by

some chocolates from the Easter basket. But all of this

began, as we hear in today’s Gospel, with the “unexpected”

when Mary Magdalena found the tomb empty. Indeed,

Peter’s speech from Acts in the first reading could insert the

phrase “you might have expected” at a number of points . . .

that Jesus would baptize John, not the other way around . . .

that his healing and exorcising ministry would win him

acclaim, not death . . . that his resurrection would place him

in another dimension, not back at the table with his

followers. On a day like Easter, a day filled with traditions,

customs, and expectations, we are called more than ever to

keep looking for God’s will in unexpected places, people,

and events. In this way we can continue to give witness, like

Mary Magdalene and Peter, that Christ is truly risen from the

dead, and continues to live among us.
