expositiva (instructiva). Ardila, (2012)

Rudolf Diesel was born in Paris in 1858. His parents were Bavarian immigrants.
Rudolf Diesel was educated at Munich Polytechnic. After graduation he was
employed as a refrigerator engineer. However, his true love lay in engine design.
Rudolf Diesel designed many heat engines, including a solar-powered air engine.
In 1893, he published a paper describing an engine with combustion within a
cylinder, the internal combustion engine. In 1894, he filed for a patent for his new
invention, dubbed the diesel engine. Rudolf Diesel was almost killed by his engine
when it exploded. However, his engine was the first that proved that fuel could be
ignited without a spark. He operated his first successful engine in 1897.
In 1898, Rudolf Diesel was granted patent #608,845 for an "internal combustion
engine" the Diesel engine. The diesel engines of today are refined and improved
versions of Rudolf Diesel's original concept. They are often used in submarines,
ships, locomotives, and large trucks and in electric generating plants.
Narrativo
Pueden apreciarse comparaciones (more...than; less…than; similar,
different, etc.).
Caffeine is one of the most widely used stimulants. It is found in common foods and drinks
(coffee, tea, and chocolate), as well as in several varieties of painkillers. It is an ingredient
in many soft drinks, notably colas. In moderate amounts, it seems to have no life-
threatening effects on the user. At some point, a mild dependence may develop. Caffeine
temporarily increases cellular metabolism (the general process of converting food into
energy), which then results in a burst of newfound energy. It also blocks the effects of
some inhibitory neurotransmitters in the brain (Julien, 1985). Caffeine disrupts sleep,
making it more difficult to get to sleep in the first place and more difficult to stay asleep.
After long or excessive use, giving up sources of caffeine may result in the pain of
withdrawal. If you tend to drink a lot of coffee and cola during the week, but take a break
from them during the weekend, you may experience headaches of caffeine withdrawal.
You may drink coffee to help stay awake to withstand an all night study session, but in a
few hours after you stop drinking the caffeine, you may experience a streak of extreme
mental and physical fatigue-perhaps right at exam time!
Descriptivo
then, afterwards, finally, etc.
Abundantes verbos en infinitivo sin “to”. Ejemplo: “Read the
instructions”, “Clean the materials before using them”.
Ejemplos: Manuales de uso de aparatos, recetas de cocina,
instrucciones o pasos para armar equipos o dispositivos, etc.
Función Comunicativa Instructivo
Safety tips in the house
Install smoke detectors and keep them in working order. Keep emergency
numbers next to the telephone. Don’t plug too many appliances into the same
wall outlet or extension cord. Keep medicines and vitamins clearly labelled
and tore them in childproof containers. Keep knives and sharp objects in a
safe place.
How to Make Your Messages Memorable
When a piece of communication is to the point, relevant, worthwhile, and compelling, it
moves you the listener or reader to action. Moving people is not magic, it’s all about
effective communication. Anyone can achieve effective communication by using a simple
tool that has an uncanny ability to pinpoint, why any message works or doesn’t work, and
how to improve it. It’s called the 4Cs Model, which stands for Comprehension, Connection,
Credibility, and Contagiousness. The 4Cs Model was originally developed as an assessment
tool for evaluating the impact of advertising and marketing materials. Brands such as
Dunkin’ Donuts, Suave Shampoo, and Breyers Ice Cream used the 4Cs Model to develop
marketing campaigns that really spoke to people and built an emotional connection with
their consumers. The good news is that you don’t have to be an expert writer or advertising
genius to accomplish messaging mastery. The beauty of the 4Cs Model is that it’s easy to
understand and simple to apply to every piece of communication you produce at work
whether it's a résumé, an email, newsletter article, marketing piece, PowerPoint, or blog.
When you use get into the habit of applying the 4Cs to every type of communication you
generate, managers, coworkers, clients, and customers will take notice.
