Variables estadísticasLa estadística recoge y ordena datos sobre cualquier fenómeno que puede ser objeto de estudio. Ese fenómeno es lo que se denomina variable estadística.

VARIABLE CUANTITATIVA

Una variable cuantitativa se llama cuantitativa si toma valores numéricos.

Por ejemplo:

Los valores que toma son numéricos: 1,2,3 y 4

VARIABLE CUALITATIVA

Una variable cualitativa se llama cualitativa si

toma valores no numéricos

Por ejemplo:

Los valores que toma no son numéricos: azules, marrones…

Frecuencias absoluta y relativa

Los datos de una variables aparecen organizados en una tabla de frecuencias

FRECUENCIA ABSOLUTA

Frecuencia absoluta de un valor es el número de veces que se repite.

La frecuencia absoluta de la calificación BIEN es 6

FRECUENCIA RELATIVA

Frecuencia relativa es el cociente entre el número de veces que se repite.

La frecuencia relativa de la calificación BIEN es de 6/23

Representación de gráficas de datos agrupados

• Cada dato es representado por una barra adosada a las demás cuya altura es equivalente a la frecuencia del dato

• Entre 3 y 5 años hay 200 alumnos.

• Cada dato se representa por el punto medio de las barras del histograma. El polígono de frecuencias se construye uniendo estos puntos medios.

• Entre 12 y 14 años hay 150 alumnos

La media, la mediana y la moda

La media es la suma de todos los datos obtenidos dividida entre el número total de datos.

Así, la media de las edades de Marta y sus primos se calcula:

La media de edad es 7 años

• La moda de una distribución es el dato que más se repite o el que tiene mayor frecuencia.

• En las edades: 3,5,6,8,9,9 y 9.

• El dato que más repite es 9

• La moda es 9 años

• La mediana es el valor que ocupa la posición central de los datos ordenados.

• En las edades: 3,5,6,8,9,9 y 9

• La mediana es de 8 años
