I picture myself in my kitchen. There are many dirty dishes thatneed to be cleaned by hand. Although Id rather go read a book orwatch television, I decide to begin cleaning the dishes, one by one. Atfirst the task looks overwhelmingbecause there are so many dirtydishes. But I find great satisfaction as I clean each dish one by one,reducing the dishes remaining to be cleaned. As I wash each dish I getmore and more satisfactionbecause I know that soon I will have com-pleted the whole task. Its a task that needs to be done and it is for myown welfare. And now I see myself cleaning the last dish. As I do, Irealize how good it feels to get the whole task out of the way. The taskwas not as large as I had imagined, and I handled it efficiently andeffectivelyand now I can go read my favorite book, watch TV, or dosomething else I enjoy to reward myself.
