NADIRA MINES LTD.(Non-Personal Liability)

Consists of 56 claims covering an old propertyformerly known as the Southern Cross and latterly as the Bornite; lying six miles approxo duewest of the west end of Cowichan Lake; betweenthe north and south forks of Horse Creek, a tributary of Parker Creek which flows south from TuckLake into the Nitinat River at a point three mileswest of the western boundary of the E & N LandGrant.

The Block of claims contains approxo 2700 acresand covers 15000' along strike and 4500' eitherside of zone and lying between 1000 and 2500 feetelevation. This combined with the relative smallsnowfall in this area assure a round the yearoperation.

There are roads and logging railways in the areawhich make it readily accessible and transportation no ·problem. We are presently negotiatingfor the use of these. Here. we will require no morethan two miles of road construction and to commence with, merely an access road for diamonddrilling equipment and supplies.

The creeks here afford all the water that we willneed for an intensive development program andprobably enough for development power needs. When we reach the production stage we anticipateno difficulty in obtaining sufficient electric powerfor our requirements from the B. C. PowerCommission.

There are three shipping points that will be available, namely, Nitinat Lake, Alberni and the eastcoast at Crofton or Cowichan Bay.

Starting at Victoria, going northwest there is abroad belt knovvn as Vancouver Volcanics, roughlyten miles wide, that persists through to the northend of the island, underlain by the Nitinat limestoneswhich in turn are underlain by the Leech Riverslates, schists and quartzites which are sediments.and the oldest rocks on the island. In this belt of Vancouver Volcanics are minoramounts or lenses of crystalline limestones termedthe Sutton formation, supposedly contemporaneouswith the Vancouver Volcanics.Saanich Granodiorite, an intrusive, occurs infingers throughout the Vancouver Volcanics andsometimes as fairly large masses.

NADIRA MINES LTD.(Non-Personal Liability)

Locally, near the mineralized zone, the rocksare fine-grained greenstones with small amountsof grey limestone, similar to Sutton limestonesand Vancouver Volcanics, with green dyke-likemasses of feldspar porphyry cutting the alteration zone.

Cowichan Lake, Strait of Juan de Fuca are majorfaults with a northwest strike whereas AlberniCanal and Nitinat Lake are major faults runningat right angles. Locally, Parker Creek wouldappear to be an eight mile long part of anothermajor fault running north and south.

The metal is COPPER, the most versatile metalused and the only base metal that has appreciatedin price. Further there are definite indicationsthat the price increase will be maintained, due tothe depletion of the copper mines in the U. S. A.and the uncertain conditions of their formerforeign sources; not to mention the great increasein the uses and users.

It occurs mainly as chalcopyrite with minoramounts of bornite, in what is usually termed askarn zone, another name for a highly alteredzone of volcanics, etc., here, mostly ilvaite andgarnetite. The chalcopyrite occurs sometimesas bands of massive mineralization, but generallyis disseminated in varying degrees through theskarn zone.

The property shows good copper mineralizationin numerous outcrops (over 60, which is anamazing amount in view of the little work done)in a zone or belt 400 feet wide and 2000 feetknown length, over a vertical range of 600 feet.

Since the first work was done further prospectingthis summer located in this heavily wooded area, another outcrop 500 feet further south. In thecreek bed of the south fork of Horse Creek another2000 feet south again from former outcrop, chalcopyrite and garnetite outcrops in variousplaces over a 400 foot width. This creek bed is700 feet lower than lowest outcrop of main showings to the north.

While we obtained an average of 7. 300/0 copper ingrab sampling high grade sections of severaloutcropsl systematic sampling by previous operators suggests a grade between 1. 15 and 1.41 % forfive ore bodies in a belt 1200 feet long 600 feetwide l indicating 4500 tons per vertical foot.

Since the mineralized rock would weather morereadily and be less likely to outcrop, there is agood possibility of finding higher grade oreunderground.

While much of this belt will undoubtedly beporphyry intrusive l that is directly associatedwith the ore l obviously if the whole indicatedbelt of 4500 foot length and of 400 indicated widthlof 1300 foot vertical range proves up we wouldhave a mine of major proportions.

- DEVELOPMENT-

There has been very little surface work done sincethe property was first found in the early 1900 'swhen the trail from Lake Cowichan to Albernitraversed. directly over the outcroppings. Butwhen one considers the enormous task of development that confronted prospectors at that time, inan area thickly forested with trees two and threehundred feet highl where they had only trails andcable crossings over the river I it is little wonderno large scale development was embarked upon, especially with the price of copper at 10 to 12cents per pound. However, the oldtimers managed todo-consideTablestripping, get in a few cuts and even a short tunnel.

In 1942 by means of pack horses, a limited amountof diamond drilling was done. The results werenot encouraging, which is not surprising in viewof the complex pattern of faulting and intrusivesthat usually exist in this area. Consequently wefeel that the six holes of a total of 2000 feet, hardly adequate in a zone of this size.Over 500/0 of the coring was in intrusive l and inour opinion half of the holes drilled with the dipand possibly two through a fault.Nevertheless 2 of the holes cored ore comparableto that on the surface.

SELF-POTENTIAL- GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY-

Due to the very heavy forest with its very hightimber value it was considered both unwise andunnecessary to launch upon a program of strippingand open-cutting which is the usual procedure inopening up a new prospect. Instead it was decidedfar more information could be obtained by runninga Self-Potential Geophysical Survey, coupled witha thorough effort at prospecting and geologicalmapping; especially in view of highly gratifyingresults obtained on other properties, employingthese methods, not to mention it would be farquicker and cheaper.

The purpose of this survey was to outline possibleheavy cores or' concentrations of sulphide orchalcopyrite, both those that appear in the outcrops and others that might otherwise be covered, since they would erode quicker than the surrounding rocks.

Once outlined, we have more definite targets fordiamond drilling or other methods of exploration. In addition, study of the maps of this survey willusually indicate the strike of the ore and the dip, which are very important in order to drill to thebest advantage 0

Faults, their strikes and dips, can usually bedetermined greatly aiding diamond drilling andother exploration work.

An area 2000 feet long, 900 feet wide was coveredby the survey, and as can be seen by the map, awide belt of 11 anomalies were outlined and as alsocan be seen, most of the anomalies have copperoutcrops on the m and the readings are not too high,so that graphite can be ruled out as a possibiliLy.

The zone as outlined, confirms that previouslystated, of the outcrops, 400 feet wide or a littlebetter and 2000 feet longoThe survey was carried 500 feet north of the mapshown.

The indicated individual widths of mineralizationare as high as 300 feet with lengths up to 600 feet.

It would appear to some that the zone lackscontinuity, whereas it could be the result ofoverburden, faulting or intrusive dykes andpossibly all three.

To us the results are highly gratifying and theanomalies of exceptional widths and lengths.Certainly worthy of an intensive exploration.

PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT-

A s readily seen, a zone of this tre mendoussize, will require intensive exploration, inorder to arrive at accurate tonnages andaverage value. And while we could launchan underground program, the capital expenditure would be much larger than that requiredfor a diamond drilling program; also the timerequired much greater.

However to launcha limited drill program wouldbe equally unsound as already demonstratedhere. It should be comprehensive enoughto correlate in detail, all the results.

The two major anomalies, each 300 feet wide, have a combined length of 1000 feet and toproperly drill these alone, the holes shouldbe put down on a grid of 100 foot spacingafter working out the faulting, ore strikeand dip.

This would mean 50 holes each of whichshould average 400 foot depth, making atotal of 20, 000 feet of drilling to be done.

Owning our own drills, having ample watersupply and ready access to the area assuresus of a lower than average cost per foot andwhich we estimate will not exceed $4.00inclusive of logging and splitting.

Briefly, we will require $80, 000.00 fordiamond drilling alone. In addition to thiswork and as soon as conditions permit, wewill resume, at an increased rate, our geophysical surveying, geological mappingand prospecting.
