Three students from the IES Guindàvols High School, Aida Ortega, Bi Cao and Paulina Lanyoh, accompanied of three teachers more, Anicet Cosialls, Rosa Borrell and Sara Cabello, went to Turkey as a first travel from the project Comenius. Approximately at 1 pm we had to take the flight from Barcelona to Istanbul, so about 6 am, the teachers and we took the taxi to be there with punctuality.

The first flight took about two hours. We arrived to Istanbul without any problems, and at the estimated time we were there ready to take the second plane to Adana.

The trip was great, lasted 4 hours, but all we didn’t found it hard to wait because we were very excited to be there and to meet our host families. We also were very grateful because the High School let our three friends to be together and

to travel together, and to be sincere, it was the first time we were leaving the country together. There are no words to describe how we felt on that moment, on the moment we saw our trip partner and host families, because it was a special one. Looking all the city, having that nervous face, talking timidly to our host family, was a very good sensation. After many trips, emotions and everything, it was time to rest, because the best was yet to come.

We had already spent the first night of our trip. On the second day we visited the High School of our Turkish friends and we met the rest of colleagues from other countries (Romania, Italy and Germany) who also participated at the Comenius Project.

Page 6: Revista Lleida Comenius 2010-2012

At 8, we were all at school. This school is called Seyhan Rotary Anadolu Lisesi. It’s bigger than ours and also with some differences, for example all students there wear uniforms. The institute itself is similar to ours, but some manners are just better than here, one of them is that when teachers arrive at classes, all the students must stand up and politely greet until the teacher lets them sit down.

Returning to the issue, just that day was Ataturk’s day, a national holiday. All Turkey was on celebration. The whole city was full of flags. For them, Ataturk is very important because Atatürk was the first president, an important and revolutionary leader to Turkey in the twentieth century.

So,we spent the day there meeting new people and making some new friends we still have now.

All the students were very happy we were there and many of them wanted to take some photos with us. It made us feel like we were famous people!!! It was really a good moment.

At night, all the students from the Comenius Project had a meeting at a coffee in orther to meet ourselves better and to start talking because we all wanted to have a great relation between us. The coffee was amazing with lots of plants and decorations.

The third day was fantastic. We traveled to Cappadocia. We were fascinated with that place. Cappadocia is such a beautiful place. The views were spectacular, in the little markets there were a lot of beautiful gifts, etc. Capadocia s a historical region of central Anatolia, Turkey, which covers parts of the provinces of Kayseri, Aksaray, Nide and Nevehir. is characterized by a unique geological formation in the world, and its historical and cultural heritage. In 1985, was included by UNESCO in the list of World Heritage. In the triangular center of Cappadocia are the salient points as outdoor museums, Goreme, Zelve, valleys; Avcilar, GUVERCINLIK, Kizikcukur, Pasabag, Derbent, the towns; Uçhisar, Çavuin, Mustafapasa, the inn Sarihan and many more.

Page 7: Revista Lleida Comenius 2010-2012

The activities in the area are flying in a hot air balloon, trekking and mountain, at night go to the folk dance halls, horse riding etc.One of the curiosities of Cappadocia is the underground cities. The ancient peoples of the area to defend life against the attacks of the enemy built tunnels, rooms, kitchens, underground churches. The visit of an underground city is one of the most interesting experiences.

The Evil Eye, comes from the belief that an evil person can influence on another badly, This amulet, TURKISH EYE scares that kind of people and let us far of dangers.

The roots of the existence of the evil eye comes from Babylon, and ancient Egypt. It is also observed among the Sumerians and Hittites. They say the bad feelings that

are within the human being come out through his eyes. The eye is the most expressive and clear part of the body. Today modern parapsychological studies have shown that this is indeed so and that if the evil eye.

The belief of "an eye Turk" exists in the countries along the Mediterranean, Arabia, Turkey to India. The name given the Turks this amulet is nazar boncuk. Some sources even say that the origin of blue eye is due to the invasion of the north. The Norse had blue eyes and the peoples of Anatolia thought they were casting the evil eye and created to counter the blue eye.We also took lots of photos with the Turkish eye’s tree.

On the third day we woke up very exhausted! We had fun these two days before and we wanted more. Our partner told us we would go to a city, a city we had never been before, so it couldn’t go anything wrong. First of all we visited an area of some old houses. All them were very nice to see, and of course, we took lots of photographies so that we could have a nice reminder.

By the lunch time, we all went to a new restaurant full of different kinds of kebabs. I’m sure they had prepared it before in orther to show us new styles of making kebab. This time, the kebab was EXTRANGE. It was full of grass!!! It was difficult to that just like the way there were, we had to take off all the grass. So, you can expect how was our dish after the dinner. However, it was one of the most funniest times. We laugh a lot, and of course, we took a group photo. The city was full of people, but in the afternoon, we took again to remake our trip. Now we were heading towards to the mountains. Organizers wanted to bring us there to show us some caves. We really had to walk down a lot and all students ended with shoelaces the day after. But it was worth. The cave was full of stalactites.

Finally, at night, as everyday, our trip took its end, and we had to go back home. However, by the way we were going to the mountains, we saw a beautiful and old castle at sea. It was on an island, but it seemed it was floating on the water. So, teachers lent us stop the bus and go down and spend some minutes on the bank so that we could see the pretty castle at night full of shinny lights. It was really amazing.

On this wonderful new day, our sad feelings started going out. We all knew it was our last day together, and we didn’t want to separate us. Furthermore, some trip’s mates couldn’t come and other turkey students came with us. The positive point we found of that is that we met new people and we made lots of friends. They all were very kind.

First of that day, we went again into some caves to see more. Then we entered a kind of temple, it was like a traditional one with carpets. Teachers let us visit it, but of course, without shoes! For lunch we had a lot of food. All them were delicious and although we were full, we tried to eat it all. I think our favorite one was the meat. In the afternoon, we went to a city to visit a museum.

By the end of the day, we decided to organize a party to had a good farewell. So, a Turkish teacher helped us finding out a local dance. We danced, singed, took photos, and we especially smiled and laughed a lot. But when we saw people had to go home due to the time, our sadness started again. We couldn’t control each other, and our tears began coming out. I was very sad. All we were embracing each other, and we decided to take a group photo as a reminder.

That day was really difficult to wake up. We all were very sad and didn’t want to separate our families. However, we had to go to the airport. When we embrace our host families, our tears appeared again. It was so sad, but life gives good moments, and also bad ones. That moment was especially difficult, but we all leaved Turkey with the reminder of all what we had lived those days, and it was really an amazing thing full of specials moments unforgettable. We knew that since then, we had lots of new friends.

The last 2nd of May we began our trip to Vieste and

Peschici (Italy), two beautiful cities of the south of Italy. Our trip was an Odisea, first we went by car to Barcelona airport. We caught the plane and we flew to Napoli. When we arrived in Napoli Pino the Italian teacher met us. Finally, after a long travel we arrived at Peschici and Vieste. Some people were in Peschici and others were in Vieste. That night we met our Italian partners and their family. We were very tired and we went to bed early.

 The second

day in the morning we went to Lorenzo Fazzini High School in Vieste. There we met the headmaster of the high school and also the other students. Moreover we went to the auditorium because the headmaster wanted to welcome the foreign people. In the afternoon the people of Vieste walked around the town in order to buy some food for the dinner which was at Matteo’s Villa with all the

Comenius partners. The dinner was great, there were very good ambient. After dinner we went to a bar to watch the semi finals Champions league match, R. Madrid versus F.C. Barcelona. The score was Barcelona 1 Madrid 1 but the Catalan team passed through the final because in the first match they had won 0-2 Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

Page 13: Revista Lleida Comenius 2010-2012

On Wednesday morning we went to Vieste to work with the project.

We were at the computer classroom. In the afternoon we did our first excursion, we went to Gargano’s park, a very good place where the guide showed us some very famous caves. There was a perfect place to take a lot of photos! The excursion was good fun and during the trip by bus we sang a lot. One hour later we arrived in Peschichi and Vieste again. We ate the dinner with our families and next we went to bed. We went to bed early because the next day we had to get up at half past six.

  On Thursday

we got up very early to spend the day. In the morning we visited Monte San Angelo, where we visited beautiful churches of different styles and after we went to a degustation of a cookers school. All the food was great! We caught the bus and we went to Sant Giovanni Rotondo again to have lunch in a prestigious restaurant and then we visited the city. We walked around the town and we visited more churches.

The last day in the morning we went to Vieste to say

goodbye to the teachers and the other students from Italy and the other countries. In the auditorium each country presented his work to everybody else. There were very good works. Our school for example showed a lip dub of one song by Black Eyed Peas: “Time of my life”. In the afternoon we had free time to connect to internet, have

a shower, have an afternoon nap, etc. We also got ready to go out at night. In Vieste we had a very friendly dinner with all the students of the Comenius. Next we went to a pub to celebrate the end of the week with music. We finished the night saying goodbye to everybody.

What has been done?

The idea of collecting together all

existing knowledge about the world in

one work is thousand of years old.The

Greek philosopher Aristotle (384-322

BC) wrote about many areas of human

knowledge.Today, most encyclopaedias

contain general information about all

subjects, and entries are written by a

group of experts in different fields. In our

project” Building the European House”

the entries are pieces of work written by

our students for the general public whose

aim is to collect together all that is

considered useful to show the rest of the

members about daily life, food,

customs, philosophers, musicians,

painters, sportmen and women in every

country.

What has been learnt?

Students can practise their English while

learning about the world around them

.They find out about other people’s

interests and travel to other countries both

physically and mentally and discover how

History can sometimes be modified or

changed. They also reflect on their own

language-learning experiences.

What has been improved?

A two-years project is a unique

experience! Twenty-four months that can

change your life! The purpose of this

project is to take a break from every-day

work and hopefully see some of the world

and learn from it. It’s an opportunity to

enjoy a bit of travel, gain some experience

on human relationsl and other people’s

knowledges.

almost perfectly the day that five students of Guindàvols High

School (Genís Anaya, Marc Borrás, Víctor Gil, Anastasya Mendela and Pau Navarro) left Spain to join a Comenius project in Romania. Imagine leaving your country without you parents (with teachers instead Rosa Borrell, Sara Cabello and Anicet Cosialls) and with four friends for a week… no words. And all to contribute and participate in an international project, a Comenius. The project consists in building an European House with rooms related with each country. Instructions and work was given to us before taking the plane. We had to write about ten different topics because once there, we would compare the compositions with the ones of the other countries. It was a fantastic experience. I had a couple of partners that hadn’t flown before so the flight wasn’t boring, on the contrary it was exciting and funny. I can remember our jitters when we landed. First we had to change our currency because Romania doesn’t have the euro yet. If I’m right, I think that 4 lei equal to 1 euro. Anyways, it was a headache because you were constantly changing currency and counting to realize how much money you were spending. Then, once we got the baggage, we went to meet our hosts. It was a pretty interesting scene, imagine: the Romanian people holding posters with our names and us reading all of them trying to find where we had to go. After leaving the baggage at home and meeting the families we went to a “tea house” where we had some tea. I didn’t know what that was until then. Perhaps there were two hundred different kinds of teas; all you can imagine was in that place. However, fortunately, I didn’t try out any weird tea just in case…

Page 17: Revista Lleida Comenius 2010-2012

During the week we did lots of things, from visiting the legendary castle of Dracula to go shopping in a commercial centre. On Thursday we did an oral exposition giving our ideas about ecological and sustainable houses for building the European House. Now we have to gather here in Lleida and continue the work and try to come to a conclusion. As the week went on and we started to know all of them all went so much more fluent and less tense. We could talk with anyone and all was so great… On Friday there was a party. They rented a place and we stayed there until late at night. We were able to dance, laugh and talk all we wanted to. On Sunday we had the day free and we did what we wanted. In the morning we went to play football with some friends and in the afternoon we met in the commercial centre and we bought some presents for the family. The last night we went to a bowling. In conclusion, I have learned so many things, not only about culture or food but also about people. They have taught and I have learnt some important values just like friendship, confidence and so on. That’s why I wish them nothing but the best and I hope to see all of them again. This project is about building an European house, which has to include a bit of all the five countries taking part. It also has to be sustainable and according to a general agreement. At night, after meeting the family, we met some other people. They gave us a very warm welcome and we had a really good time. At twelve o'clock we had to go back and we spent two hours or so talking. My first day was perfect. The third day we went to an official building and to visit some other places. Bucharest is really big and you always find places where you haven't already been. We also went to some museums and in the afternoon all the students met in a café. On Thursday we had to get up very early and we went to Sinaia and Bran by bus. We had to spend a lot of hours in this bus, but it was really worth because we saw to amazing castles. I liked Dracula's castle the most, the guide tour was really funny and he told us a joke about vampires. The next day we went to school again to arrange the last questions about the European House and to say goodbye to the teachers. German students had to live very early so we said goodbye to them and at night we went to a party. I think that everyone of my age should have this kind of experience because it really changes your mind and you learn a lot, like in intensive classes. If I had a list of the best weeks of my life, It surely would be the first of the ranking.

Page 18: Revista Lleida Comenius 2010-2012

#$$# $ chosen for the trip thought this time was different. This

time It was more serious than the Germany trip one, because there, it was like a school trip, but the Romania one was like for business !!! We were staying at other student’s houses. Our hosts were Matei, Niki, Dragos, Radu Maioru and we had such a great time with them. At school, we had some kind of presentation after finding the place where we should be, and then, we could taste all the typical specialities that our Romanian hosts brought in a strange type of buffet. After that strange and particularly early lunch, because it was at over 12 pm, we went to a fast tour over Bucharest, our “host” city, we could see a lot of famous monuments and we visited a cathedral and we stopped in a park. There we could taste some kind of small donuts called like that which were eaten with a strange chocolate sauce and they were awesome. After it, we went to sleep. On the third day, we went to school at the same as the previous day time and we started the presentations of our cities and countries, and we had some typical food too. During the afternoon, we visited the museum and after it, we went to some kind of a Moroccan café and we had some beers. After the café we all got home The fourth day was really exciting, but it started so fast, I mean, we woke up really early That day We went to Sinaia and Bran Castles Dracula’s one and the other was property of a really rich woman. We enjoyed a lot the visit, but it became really long. It was more than 12 hours, finally at night, we went to sleep really fast, because the next day would be really plenty and we were really tired. We divided ourselves into 5 different groups with some members of each country and we did some exercises about the project. That was the last day for the Germans. We enjoyed a lot our last day in Romania. The next day, we just flew home, it was such an emotive day, but I found it funny, and we all knew what we had to do the next week. …

The final day arrived, so we woke up very early in the morning .We said goodbye and a lot of thanks to Drago’s mum, and all the others and we went to the airport. There we said goodbye to the other students, the girls cried and I don’t know why I didn’t because I was very sad. The travel on the plane was short too because we slept. Now we’re in Lleida, waiting for the 13th February, when we will see them again .I can’t describe what i lived there because i can’t find any words!! I hope that I’ll do another exchange because it’s a great think to meet people around the world.

What has been done? Our third visit has been to Bucharest. There we

visited the school Colegiul National Bilingv George Cosbuc. On our first day we shared our common work. All the participants explained their projects. Our team talked about the Roman remains in the city of Lleida, and about the conditions required to build a sustainable house.

What has been learnt? The experience has allowed us to discover a city

which has been described as a welcoming place. Located in Southern Romania, Bucharest with 2.2 million inhabitants is known for its wide, tree-lined boulevards glorious“Belle Époque” buildings and bustling metropolis atmosphere .What is now Romania has been inhabited since the Paleolithic Age as evidenced by carved stone tools unearthed there 10.000 BC, approximate date of the first known art in present Romania ,in northern Transylvania. In 101-196-AD the Romans conquered and

colonized Dacia. It became a Roman province and in the 4th century Christianity was adopted by the Dacian-Roman Latin-speaking people. And in the 11th century the Romanians were the only people in the Eastern part of the former Roman Empire and the only Latin people to belong to the Orthodox faith.

An insightful synthesis addressed to all those who want to learn about other nationalities and cultures has been provided with this trip. We have also traced back the Roman remains in all the countries as well as the historical links occurred all through History.

Our knowledge about Europe has been enlarged, a fact that allows us to have a deeper insight on our mutual relationships and connections. What results on an improvement of social cohesion among all the countries.

A landslide occurred in 1997

in the walls of the Seu Vella,

on the left of the Lion Gate,

led to the discovery of a

section of the wall of the

Roman era, between the I

and II century BCE

At that time, there was the

area of the district Suda,

who was surrounded by

walls. Until now, these

remains were a mystery for

archaeologists, who had

recently begun digging at

this point under the second

phase of the works of the

settlement around the Old

Cathedral.

There was a revolt and Mandoni and Indíbil

Ilergets warriors, fought against Roman

domination in the third century BC. In 212

BC, during the Second Punic War,

the brothers Publius, Gnaeus Cornelius

Scipio went on the attack,

being defeated and killed by the

Carthaginians.

The defense of the cities

has been one of the

main worries of our past

generations, since them

all the only thing that

they wanted it was to

secure a good future,

and not only of their

inhabitants and their

belongings, but also of

their culture and living.

The Romans were those

that perfected the

different methods of

defense through the

walls.

In Spain we have multiple examples of the first years

of domination (first and second century b.Ch.) and

many of them restored or remodeled, which are

witnesses of the importance of these constructions in

the roman world. With the "Pax Augusta", as it is

logical, the construction of walls were reduced, but it

was reactivating again in the III century a.Ch. due of

the pressure of the barbarous people villages.

The puzzle-sculpture of Julius

Caesar, situated on the banks

of the river Segre, Carrer

Jaume II, was placed in 1999.

Given to the city by the writter

Joseph Vallverdú and Isabel

wants to remember the famous

battle of Ilerda. In 49 bC, Julius

Caesar defeated Pompey’s

troops.Julius Caesar defeated Pompey’s

troops. The monument describes the

city of two hills and the suburban, with

a flood of Segre who take the two

wooden bridges that were built since

the followers of Caesar “el pont Vell”

(The Old bridge) was in pompeian’s

hands. The battle continuedin the

unknown town of Otobesa in the

confluence of Segre with Ebro.
