“Integración de Redes Neuronales Ejecutivas y Semánticas en Patologías del Control Cognitivo” y el

UNLaR al frente en Neurociencias / UNLaR Ahead of Neurosciences

The meeting was carried out due to the call for the co-financing of Interuniversity Research Projects

Argentina 2010-2011, through which the Argentine University Consortium (CUIA) makes an economic

fund of Thirty five Thousand Euros (€ 35,000) available for its projection. This project is framed in the

approval of a specific Research Project, initiative of the National University of La Rioja, and for which

the National University of Cordoba and the Italian Universities Universita Degli Studi di Udini,

Sapienza Universita di Roma, and Universita di Bologna favor joint research between the two

countries. It is also planned to carry out an academic venture based in the Creation of a Basic Cognitive

Processes Laboratory at UNLaR.

The introduced Plan´s objective is to present the Research Project ́ ´Integracion de Redes Neuronales

Ejecutivas y Semanticas en Patologias del Control Cognitivo´´ (Integration of Neuronal Executive and

Semantic Networks in Pathologies of the Cognitive Control). In that frame, it was highlighted that the

Research Project´s objective was to determine if the quality of the functional connection between

neuronal networks of executive functions and of the semantic process is associated to emerging

cognitive processes that impact on the execution of behaviors that need a wide cognitive control.

The Head of CISPE Prof. Dr. Daniel Cohen introduced the CUIA Program, and so it was introduced the

Project ´´Integration of Fronto Temporal Neuronal Networks in Pathologies of Executive Control´´

led by Prof. Dr. Julian Marino, and the Project Laboratory of Basic Cognitive Processes (LAPROCOB).

In a second stage, Prof. Dr. Marino together with Prof. Mg. Juan Pablo Zorza spoke about Cognitive

Neurosciences: Structures, Processes and Representations: Basis of Cognitive Psychology.

Nahuel Romero, participó del “Primer Congreso Nacional de Viveros de Vid, Olivos y

Frutales de Hoja Caduca” en la ciudad de Mendoza.

Rioja, participated, in Mendoza, of the ́ ´First National Congress of Grape, Olive tree, and

Decidious Fruit Trees Nurseries´´

presented Advances in Biotechnology in National Congress

The objective of this course was to offer an academic and professional environment for the exchange of

information and knowledge, which would be useful for the professionals of the national and

international nursery sector update. It was organized by the National Seed Institute (INASE),

together with the National Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries; Ministry of Production,

Technology and Innovation, from Mendoza; National Service of Agri-food Health and Quality

(SENASA); National Farm Technology Institute (INTA), Agricultural Health and Quality Institute

Mendoza (ISCAMEN), the School of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Cuyo; the National

Institute of Vitiviniculture, among others.

Prof. Dr. Nahuel Romero, Head of said Project, presented the results of the Biotechnology Research

Project, which attempts to recognize different varieties of olive tree through molecular markers.

This Project, developed at CENIIT, allowed the identification of five varieties of olive tree (frantoio,

cornezuelo, arauco, manzanillo and aberquina) through the use of techniques that extract DNA

(deoxyribonucleic acid) from its leaves, and afterwards they identify the specific region of each variety

according to their genetic material. It was informed that the ´´future works will be centered in the

analyses of other olive varieties, and the identification of new molecular markers´´.

Prof. Dr. Romero was selected to execute said Project by the National University of La Rioja through

the ´´Program of Scientific Retreats UNLaR 2011-2012´´. This allowed National and/or International

Researchers to elaborate, develop, or implement Scientific and Technological Projects in the

following areas: Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, and Natural, Renewable Energy Sources.

El objetivo de este encuentro fue brindar un espacio académico y profesional de intercambio de

información y conocimientos, que sirva para la actualización de los actores involucrados en el sector

viverista en el plano nacional e internacional. El mismo fue organizado por el Instituto Nacional de

Semillas (INASE), junto al Ministerio de Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca de la Nación, el Ministerio de

Producción, Tecnología e Innovación de Mendoza, el SENASA, INTA, ISCAMEN, la Facultad de

Ciencias Agrarias de la Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, el Instituto Nacional de Vitivinicultura, entre

otros.

El Director del mencionado Proyecto, Prof. Dr. Nahuel Romero expuso sobre los resultados del

Proyecto de Investigación en Biotecnología, tendiente a reconocer las diferentes variedades de olivos

por marcadores moleculares.

A través del mencionado Proyecto desarrollado en el CENIIT, se logró diferenciar cinco variedades de

olivos (frantoio, cornezuelo, arauco, manzanilla y arbequina) utilizando técnicas que extraen el ADN

(material genético: ácido desoxirribonucleico) de sus hojas y posteriormente identifican regiones

específicas de cada variedad en su material genético. Desde ello, se informó que “los trabajos futuros se

centrarán en poder analizar otras variedades de olivos y poder identificar nuevos marcadores

moleculares”.

El Prof. Dr. Romero fue seleccionado para ejecutar el mismo, por la Universidad Nacional de La Rioja

mediante el “Programa de Estancias Científicas UNLaR 2011-2012”, que permitió que Investigadores

Nacionales y/o Extranjeros elaboren, desarrollen o implementen Proyectos de Investigación

Científica y Tecnológica en las Áreas de: Biotecnología, Nanotecnología y Energías Naturales

Renovables.

Estudiantes de la Carrera de Arquitectura participaron de una conferencia denominada “Estudio

del Concurso New York Theater City”, la misma sirvió para apoyar conceptualmente el desafío en

el que están inmersos los Alumnos de “Taller de Diseño Arquitectónico IV” de la Escuela de

Arquitectura.

Students of the Architecture Program of Studies participated in the conference ´´Study of the

Contest New York Theater City´´. This conference was useful to support, conceptually, the

challenge the Students of ́ ´Workshop of Architectural Design IV´´ are immersed in.

La UNLaR a la Vanguardia del Diseño Arquitectónico / UNLaR is in the Vanguard of Architectural Design

The lecture was led by the American Arq. Alyana Frasser, and the Argentine Arq. Rodrigo Gimenez

who programmed the conference to be split in three instances; the first was related to the experience

they had with the architectural projects of the renowned architect Cesar Pelli. In the second part, they

emphasized on New Yorkers´ life; and in the third part they dealt with United States´ urban cultural

centers.

On this respect, Prof. Arq. Mariana Romanazzi said: ́ ´I am really interested in making students open

their minds up to the world, to know that nothing is impossible, as it is the fact of working in one of the

biggest studios in the world, especially with Arq. Cesar Pelli´´.

The ´´New York Theater City´´ is a contest of ideas, based mostly on showing life experience in New

York, from the point of view of architects. New York is, no doubt, one of the main world contemporary

capitals. The image of the city has come to be known in every corner of the world thanks to icons as

important as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building or the Brooklyn Bridge; but it is also

known thanks to its people and culture which makes them known worldwide for many reasons.

About Arq. Cesar Pelli

He studied in the National University of Tucuman; in 1952 he moved to the United States, and at

present he lives in New Haven, Connecticut. In 1977, he founded his own studio, Cesar Pelli and

Associates. Among his academic activities, he was Dean at the School of Architecture, University of

Yale (1977-1984). His most famous work are the ́ ´Petrona Towers´´, located in Kuala Lumpur, Malasia.

They have been the tallest buildings in the world. His work is characterized by the search for elegance

and sobriety, and the attempt to create a modern image.

La disertación del estudio de este concurso estuvo a cargo de la Arquitecta Alyana Frasser, de origen

norteamericano y el Arquitecto Rodrigo Giménez, de nacionalidad argentino, quienes plantearon la

conferencia en tres instancias; la primera referida a la experiencia que los disertantes vivieron a partir

de Proyectos arquitectónicos con el reconocido Arquitecto César Pelli, mientras que para la segunda

parte de la conferencia hicieron hincapié en la vida de los neoyorkinos, y finalmente concluyeron con

centros culturales urbanos de los Estados Unidos, analizados desde el punto de vista de la interacción

de estos con la ciudad y los espacios verdes.

Alumnos y Profesores de la Carrera de Arquitectura, que se dicta en nuestra Casa de Altos Estudios,

estuvieron presentes en dicha conferencia. Al respecto la Prof. Arq. Mariana Romanazzi comentó que

“me interesa de sobremanera que los estudiantes se abran al mundo, que nada es imposible, como el de

trabajar en unos de los estudios más grandes del mundo, especialmente con el Arq. César Pelli”.

El “New York Theater City” es un concurso de ideas, que se basa sobre todo en demostrar la experiencia

de vida en la ciudad de Nueva York, desde la mirada de arquitectos. Nueva York es sin dudas una de las

principales capitales mundiales contemporáneas. La imagen de la ciudad ha llegado a todos los

rincones del mundo gracias a íconos tan importantes como la Estatua de la Libertad, el Empire State

Building o el Puente de Brooklyn, pero también gracias a su gente y su cultura, siendo mundialmente

conocidos por distintos motivos el barrio del Soho, Wall Street, y por supuesto Brodway, entre otros.

El Solar escogido para el desarrollo del proyecto es una zona de uso industrial que goza de un

emplazamiento privilegiado dentro de Manhattan, y que al igual que ya han hecho algunos de sus

solares vecinos, está a la espera de un nuevo proyecto que lo ayude a reinventarse dentro de la ciudad.

César Pelli, es arquitecto, de nacionalidad argentino. Estudió arquitectura en la Universidad Nacional

de Tucumán. En 1952 se trasladó a los Estados Unidos, se nacionalizó estadounidense. Actualmente

vive en New Haven, Connecticut.

En 1977 fundó su propio estudio denominado César Pelli and Associates. Entre sus actividades

académicas fue Decano de la Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Yale (1977 - 1984). Se lo

distinguió con la medalla de oro del The American Institute of Architects (AIA) (Instituto

Estadounidense de Arquitectos).

Su obra más famosa la constituyen las Torres Gemelas Petronas en Kuala Lumpur, las mismas fueron

los edificios más altos del mundo. Se destaca una búsqueda de elegancia y sobriedad en las líneas, y el

intento de crear una imagen al mismo tiempo moderna.

CENIIT un año en la Cúspide de la Investigación / CENIIT (Centre for Technological and Innovation

Research): a year at The Top of Research

El CENIIT fue inaugurado el día 20 de Mayo del año 2010, en homenaje al Bicentenario de la

Revolución de Mayo y en conmemoración del Aniversario de la Creación de la Ciudad de La Rioja. El

mismo es el primer edificio inteligente de una Universidad Pública del País, está dotado de sistemas de

control central para administrar energía y automatizar actividades. El CENIIT está conformado por

tres Institutos Superiores del Consejo de Investigaciones Científicas y Tecnológicas (CICyT), uno

destinado a las Energías Naturales Renovables (ENARTEC), otro a la Biotecnología (BIOTEC) y el

tercero a la Nanotecnología (NANOTEC).

El Director del mencionado centro, el Prof. Ing. Víctor A. Rodríguez expresó: “el objetivo primordial es

establecer un ámbito adecuado donde además de la Investigación se formen recursos humanos y se

generen proyectos de aplicación para el crecimiento social, siendo la finalidad principal de este

emprendimiento conformar un polo regional, nacional e internacional de investigación para el

desarrollo, con el firme propósito de incrementar la calidad de vida de los habitantes de nuestra

provincia y del país”.

Los proyectos más prometedores del CENIIT son: la constitución de las “Estancias Científicas UNLaR

2011-2012” una convocatoria realizada a científicos nacionales y extranjeros para elaborar, desarrollar e

implementar proyectos de investigación científica y tecnológica, y la incorporación del Laboratorio de

Biología Molecular, donde en la actualidad se desarrollan dos líneas principales de trabajo

“Nanodiagnóstico Molecular de Enfermedades Infecciosas” y “Genotipificación Molecular de

Variedades de Olivo”.

A un año de su inauguración, el CENIIT se congratula del Lauro “Innovación en Biotecnología”

otorgado a la Universidad en la Persona del Prof. Dr. Nahuel Romero por su Trabajo “Identificación de

Variedades de Olivo por RAPDs en la Colección del Parque Tecnológico de la UNLaR”, en el marco del

“Primer Congreso Nacional de Viveros de Vid, Olivo y Frutales de Hoja Caduca” realizado en la

Provincia de Mendoza. En este Primer Aniversario, nuestra Universidad reafirma su compromiso de

estar a la vanguardia de la investigación y de la formación de destrezas y conocimientos de avanzada.

El Centro de Investigación e Innovación Tecnológica (CENIIT) de la Universidad Nacional de La

Rioja, celebra un año de su creación. Es el primer edificio inteligente desarrollado en una

Universidad Pública del País. Investigación y Conocimientos de avanzada confluyen en esta

obra.

thThis Centre for Technological and Innovation Research was opened on May 20 , 2010 in honor to the

200 years of the Libertarian Revolution, and commemorating the Aniversary of the Foundation of the

city of La Rioja. This Centre is located on Luis Vernet Avenue, and it is the first intelligent building that

belongs to a Public University in our country. It is equipped with two central control systems to

administer power and automatize the functioning by controlling the security of its facilities and

inhabitants.

It consists of three Superior Institutes of the Council of Scientific and Technological Research

(CICyT), one destined to Natural Renewable Resources (ENARTEC), another one to Biotechnology

(BIOTECH), and a third one to Nanotechnology (NANOTEC).

Its Director, Prof. Víctor A. Rodríguez, said: ´´the prime objective is to establish the appropriate

environment where, not only research is carried out but also human resources are prepared. It is also

an important goal to develop projects for social growth. The ultimate objective is to form a regional,

national and international pole of research for development, with the firm purpose of increasing the

quality of life of our province and of country people.´´

Among the most promising projects, it can be mentioned the constitution of ´´Estancias Científicas

UnLaR 2011-2012´´ (Scientific Retreats, UnLaR 2011-2012), announcement made to local and

international scientists to elaborate, develop and implement scientific and technological research

projects. The basic point is that individual work can be articulated, and in that way they can form a

network of knowledge that lets them complement themselves.

One of the proposals that is being developed corresponds to the project ́ ´Manejo de las interacciones

tróficas en el Agrosistema del olivo en La Rioja´´ (Management of Trophic Interactions on the Olive

Tree Agro-system of La Rioja ). This project is in charge of Prof. Dr. Inés del Carmen Redolfi, and it will

allow the curbing of the fast damage of ecosystems by specific action in each case.

In addition, we have to highlight the incorporation of the Laboratorio de Biología Molecular

(Molecular Biology Laboratory) at CENIIT. Two lines of work are being carried out at this laboratory:

´´Nanodiagnóstico Molecular de Enfermedades Infecciosas´´ (Molecular Nanodiagnostic of

Infectious Diseases), and ´´Genotipificación Molecular de Variedades de Olivo´´(Molecular

Genotypification of Olive Tree Varieties).

A year from its creation and opening, CENIIT is pleased for the award ́ ´Innovation in Biotechnology´´

granted to Prof. Nahuel Romero on behalf of our University. Prof. Romero has been granted this award

for his research on ´´Identificación de Variedades de Olivo por RAPDs en la Colección del Parque

Tecnológico de la UnLaR´´ (Identification of Olive Tree Varieties by the RAPD Technique in the

Collection of the UnLaR Technological Park). This took place in the framework of the ´´Primer

Congreso Nacional de Viveros de Vid, Olivo y Frutales de Hoja Caduca´´(First National Congress of

Grape Nurseries and Decidious Fruit Trees) in the province of Mendoza.

On this First Anniversary, our University reaffirms its commitment to be at the avant-garde of research

and formation of cutting-edge skills and knowledge.

The Centre for Technological and Innovation Research (CENIIT) of the National University of

La Rioja is celebrating the first year of its creation. It is the first intelligent building developed in

a public university in our country. Research and knowledge join in a national public university.
